2014 4Runner TE Super White - Let the fun begin

I plastidipped my old 4runner wheels. It's easy but time consuming. I took the spare off to practice on and use a set of playing cards around the rim. It's definitely the way to go. Expect to use about 1 can per wheel and make sure it's really clean before you start. Also, tape your valves off. Best thing is, if you doth like it you can peel it off. Just make sure you use about 4 coats before deciding to peel off or it won't.
 
I'm not sure I'm personally going to attempt to plastidip my wheels. I have ordered the KMC XD 800 wheels and I get them on Monday. Maybe if I don't like them or they don't fit right, then I'll attempt to do it. Definitely the cheaper route which is nice. Could put that money towards the Rigid LEDs for my Gobi!

I'm in the same boat here with temperatures going -20 tonight. Anyway, I would suggest doing the wheels, put them back on and drive a few days. If you don't like the look, peel it off. Also, if you want a gloss, they sell a gloss spray you put on after you're finished with the base. On the base coat, I used four cans and did between 5 - 7 coats with 15 minutes between applications. If you can't get your garage up to around 55 or so, I'd consider waiting until it warms up.
 
if you do searches on this forum you will find several posts with pictures on using plastidip to black out the emblems, the rims, door handles and any other chrome there might be on your rig. just use the google search feature.

I've done a lot of searching and seen a lot of great ideas. Just waiting till the temps reach something a little more respectable haha
 
Got my wheels put on today! Absolutely love the look. They also widened out the stance which makes it look even better. Can't wait to plastidip the silver bumper trims and get the gobi rack on.

It's safe to say... I AM ADDICTED!

Anyway, I did this on my Accord when I bought it in June '13 and six months later, many car washes, snow, road salt, etc. it's holding up fantastically. Personally, I would take the wheels off the 4R in order to ensure best coverage and that the wheels are completely clean before starting. There's a video on YouTube where a guy used simple 4"X6" note cards to place in the lip between the rim and the tires to prevent overspray onto the tires. I did this as well, very simple, cheap and highly effective. Home Depot and Lowes carry the stuff or buy on amazon.

Blaster, if you end up doing this I'd love to see the finished product! I'm considering the same for my '14 white SR5 premium. The TE wheels look great from nguyenn's post, and I'm thinking ours will too...
 
Funny, small world. I spent about half of last year working in Orange County (Lake Forest). Actually, going to be out there next week. If I do this, it'll have to wait until it warms up.
 
WeatherTechs installed

I got my weathertechs installed. Front, mid and rear cargo. Pretty happy with them. The front drivers side has a small section that doesn't quite line up but maybe heating it up and forming it will work?

Here are the photos. Not the best quality but the sun was not that great for photo opportunities.

The pups name is Hurley. He is a 17 week old Golden Retriever and loves the new 4Runner

I had the same issue w my driver's side weathertech being a little off, took photos and emailed customer service, replacement sent no questions asked.

Hurley looks like one rad pup!
 
Man I miss our Golden! Still have his fur in the carpet of our 97. Not that it's an emotional thing, he just shed like a beast! The 2014 Trail I ordered today will not show our black lab's fur!!! Although the sheperd's may show a bit. Guess I should get them weathertechs coming soon. Thanks for those pics.
