Roktoys 2014 4runner Build
Been busy since I bought the my 2014 SR5 a month ago. I added the 2.5" daystar lift, with 1.5" rear. This gives a good stance, but I would recommend you add longer rear shocks, as it over extends on speed bumps. I did a temporary fix by moving the top rubber isolation on the shock to the bottom which extended the shock maybe 3/4" so it helped a lot. But longer shocks are in my future.
I went with 285/65/18 Nitto terra grapplers, these tires look a lot more aggressive in person. Its a smaller 33', measures out at 32.58" I thought it would prevent all rubbing. I had to tie back the mud flap, moves back like .5" and did the front fender mod and move that forward. All was fine, and no rubbing before the alignment. But with castor set to 2.5, it rubbed on the front bumper, so I had to cut some off and now no rubbing during street driving.
I was possibly going to go with the Trail Grapplers in the same size, but that tire is a little taller and almost as wide as a 305 tire. I would think it would have rubbed even more. Same thing with the GY duratracs in a 295/65/18, a true 33.1" tire. I think it would have looked awesome, but since its wider and taller, I would have had more rubbing issues.
The tires are perfect with the Moto Metal 18x9 0offset wheels, the sidewall is about even with the top of the fender. I have had jeeps and hummers with the tires stick past the fender, and it sprays mud and rain everywhere, like a rooster tail.
The Terra grapplers drive really nice, not too much road noise. They do stiffen the ride a bit but not too much. I think I lost about 2mpg on the highway, and power is still good.
Also tinted the windows to 25% film, a little darker then stock, but has a greenish tone to it that I do not like. But I guess that's because of the factory greenish tint in the front windows.
Also added Viper Remote start at Best Buy, awesome for only $237 out the door.
Got in on presidents sales and got lifetime alignment from Firestone for $125.
