2014 SR5 -- missing turn signals on mirrors

Toyota specs for the 2014 non-Premium SR5 say "...heated power outside mirrors with turn signal indicators and puddle lamps..".

I happen to own a 2014 non-Premium SR5 and there are no turn signals or puddle lamps on my outside mirrors -- the indentations for them on the mirrors exist but are empty (see e.g. the pictures in http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/154036-2014-sr5.html#post1522933)

I doubt that the dealer took them off, it looks much more likely that they just were never installed at the factory.

Anyone else has a non-Premium SR5?

I haven't asked the dealer but I expect them to just go blink-blink and "I dunno, it came this way". It is useful to complain to Toyota about it?

I asked this question to someone with a non-premium trail, and they said the same exact thing...no turn signal. Did you look at your window sticker to see if it was listed as an option?

Take a look at this page on the Toyota site. It mentions the features you've asked about but also includes the following CYA text:

All information presented herein is based on data available at the time of posting, is subject to change without notice and pertains specifically to mainland U.S.A. vehicles only (may differ in the state of Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and in other regions).

More than likely an option only available for all Premium/Limited models.

The issue is that all official Toyota documentation lists this as a feature of plain, non-Premium SR5s and Trails. This is easy to confirm by looking at toyota.com

Anyway, I'll check the window sticker in the evening and that should be conclusive.

well back in the 2014 thread this post i scanned in the official brochure i got from the dealer, SR5 / TE / LE get slightly different outside treatment.

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/140201-2014-4runner-37.html#post1497985

SR5 :

Color-keyed front and rear bumpers, door handles, heated power
outside mirrors with turn signal indicators and puddle lights,
overfenders, side rocker panels and rear spoiler; silver-painted
roof rails with siiver endcaps

TE
Color-keyed front and rear bumpers with silver accents, door handles,
heated power outside mirrors with turn signal indlcators and puddle
lights, overfenders, side rocker panels, hood scoop and rear spoiler;
silver-painted roof rails with black endcaps

LE
Color-keyed front and rear bumpers, side rocker panels with chrome
inserts, heated power outside mirrors with turn signal indicators and
puddle lights, overfenders, and rear spoiler; chrome door handles,
chrome-accented front grille insert, rear license plate garnish
and chrome-painted roof rails with silver endcaps

but ultimately i think it will come down to what is on the sticker compared the the extremely fine print in the brouchure saying "get out of jail for free".

I just bought my 2013 last week.

I was looking at the 2014's and ended up with a 2013, and this was one of the small things that were a deciding factor.

The Limited I was looking at DID have turn signal indicators, the SR5 did NOT. I also noticed the side view mirrors have a whistling sound to them at highway or near highway speeds. Small detail, but that's what prompted me to take a look at the side views and notice there was no light.

Here's the relevant part of my window sticker:

Notably, "Heated Mirrors w/Turn Signal Indicator".

^^Man that really sucks, looks like Toyota screwed up big time here, lol.

First the mystery of the hidden XM antenna, and now the invisible turn signals mounted on the side mirrors. Good luck getting some kind of resolution OP, I'd be pretty annoyed if I was in your shoes!

Did you check if your mirrors even heat up? lol

well its gonna be impossible for them to dispute your own (read Toyota) window sticker.

well I have seen worse, jeep wranglers with 1 painted fender and 3 other non painted fenders. slight oversight that can be resolved for free that doesn't include a class action. remember you have to give the dealer fair amount of attempts to resolve your problem before you can escalate it.

I would double check to ensure they are heated and/or have the puddle lights. they could have installed the wrong region side mirrors (aka 3rd world country) instead of usa spec mirrors.

if under the hood can have Russian labels for usa bound trucks, its possible it was a bad batch.

now I will have to double check my inbound for this just in case :)

even looking at Toyota's website with all 3 in the picture you can see where it should be. in the attached picture I marked where the turn signal should be in red.

but in the original picture you can see there is no clear lens where the red spot should have one.

ok I went back thru all the 2014 thread and the 2014 new owners pics and all the SR5/TE w/o the premium package do not have the turn signal in the side mirrors.

the Prem SR5/TE do have them from the posted pics in those 2 threads.

I am guessing that some part of Toyota screwed the pooch, probably by not communicating clearly with other parts of Toyota -- e.g. the specs guys forgetting to tell the assembly guys that turn signals *do* go onto non-Premium SR5s and Trails...

I also suspect that the resolution will be Toyota shipping the missing parts over and having the dealer install them for free. But we'll see.

In the meantime I sent an email to the dealer, we'll see what he says. Oh, and I checked the heating element -- it's there, the mirrors do heat up.

then he would be completely screwed for warranty work since no usa Toyota tech could work on it.

Well, if Toyota actually delivered a V8 diesel to me  and put in on the window sticker so that it couldn't take the engine back, warranty maintenance becomes THEIR problem, not mine. If they have to fly in techs from overseas, I don't mind :-/
