love ours, have it in our 14 Rav4 XLE, 15 Camry XSE, 14 4Runner LE and soon the 16 Tacoma Sport.
have them all under 1 account currently. nice that I can unlock any vehicle with my phone (like if the kids lock the keys/phone inside) or if I need to drop something off inside the vehicle.
only downside of 1 account currently, it only remembers the last vehicle commanded across all phones. each phone cannot be set to a certain vehicle when you open the app.
well of course since your not running a PTS vehicle, your using a key. this issue only applies if your using a PTS and aftermarket remote start.
the shutdown is built into the main computer so its not like 90% of the remote starts can get around it. I have heard there is a 3rd party adapter that can get around the PTS and shutdown on door open but its not a big issue for me anyway.

Resurrecting a zombie thread here because I want to get a remote start before the winter hits.
Does anyone have experience with Compustar?
Any other recommendations?

Toyota's factory remote starter is GARBAGE! We have one on my wife's RAV4 and the distance that it works is very minimal to the point where we have to walk out the front door to get it in range. It's not user friendly either, you have to hit the lock button twice in a row and then hold it for the third press which often doesn't work and makes you start over. Do yourself the favor and buy aftermarket. We have had good luck with Viper in the past and it will be going on my T4R very soon, most likely Nov 7th. I am going to go with the Viper 3105V with Geek squad install for $199. With that said, I called Best Buy and there are other parts needed that brings it to about $300 installed. You of course can install it yourself if that is something within your ability, I just want a warranty. If you want my feedback of it after then, feel free to PM me, good luck.

I also think that having a remote start is dangerous. if like you parked in your garage and then you went to sleep then suddenly you accidentally started the car, you'll die of carbon monoxide poisoning. Also, if you are fixing the car, your hands is all over the engine it suddenly it starts on its own, not good.
I know for sure it's safe but the thoughts of those happening is what I can't handle.

That's one of the reasons the OEM one has a timer to shut it off after 15 minutes, or whatever. The lights flash and arming sound beeps 3 times before the engine starts.for me, I don't like the remote start. I just bundle up and go to my car, start it and drive.

Making an appointment for next Saturday to have a Viper Smart Start installed with data module that will allow system takeover when entering vehicle. You just need to hit the starter button twice then you can hit the brake and shift into park and drive off. No engine shutdown. The system will work via cellular with Viper smart start app OR the Toyota OEM smart keyfob with a lock-lock-lock keypress.
I don't have the name of the data module, but it is a Canadian company. I will try to get it when I set the appointment. $499 for the system installed by an Authorized Viper "Pro" distributor/installer I found on their website.
Compustar WG-9 Setting Off Factory Alarm
I had a Compustar WG-9 installed in my 2013 SR5 yesterday. It works great and range (3000') is great, but it sets of my factory alarm if I remote start the car without unlocking the doors first. If the doors are unlocked/alarm disarmed then everything is fine.
Anyone know how to fix this? I'm pretty sure I read on here one other person had the same issue and it required re-programming the starter. The shop I had install the starter hasn't seen this issue and is trying to figure out how to overcome it. I figured I'd check here for solutions as Compustar seems to have disabled links to their support pages and FAQs.
It seems that the starter just needs to be programmed to disarm the factory alarm/unlock a couple seconds before it turns the engine over. The question(s) is, is it possible and how?

Compustar remote. Didn't want to carry the Compustar fob and my key fob, too bulky.

tell your talented installation facility to
a: plug in the op500 and change option 1-01 to #2
b: plug the brain back into the computer and go into controller settings and change the option for unlock before, lock after, starting to ON
if they dont know what you are talking about tell them to call 888-820-3690 ask for tech support for wade, josh, woodie, jose, or cory.
i can also walk them thru on how to fix it.
if they never seen this before, they are full of crap. this is the typical OEM security needs to be turned off before remote starting.
Yes, i am that expert in remote starters. 52 installs in 12 days would make me one LOL. You should ask them about why your auto headlights dont turn off when you shut the car down via remote or times out after 15/25/45 run time. Yes, i do know how to fix that too. Oh yeah you cant because the OEM remotes dont work once the car is started.
I would add on drone mobile unit for unlimted range and functionality.

I'm not sure they've had a 5th gen in their shop yet, I spent an hour answering their questions about mine. They truly looked confused last night and have been very responsive, but I knew I'd get an answer here first before they called me back.

So apparently it is the EVO-ALL data module. I did set the appointment for next saturday. Can't wait. Should have the ability to lock/unlock and start the car from anywhere in the world with the app and also fire it up from keyfob distance as well without having to mess with the app. Double tap of the start button and off I go.
I had this issue when I had my 2 way with control module cm7000 installed. On my cm7000 unit I ended up changing the option Gshadow mentioned above using just the remote myself. Find out what control module they installed and see if you can find the full manual for the control module they used under the controller manuals tab here.
If you have the cm7000as module download the full manual go to pg26 and the first one is the one you need to set to setting II. On pg51 is where you can find instructions for programming using 1 way remotes.
This video gives you a basic idea of how to program using the remote with a different module.
If you're going to have them reprogram it go through the optional settings and see options you would like to change and let them know so they can change it for you.
Another way of solving this is by disabling oem alarm/security through techstream. I just left mine on though and lock it with oem fob all the time so it will arm both alarm in that way it would take them a while to cut and siren and disable the factory horn as well.

Exactly this ^^
This is exactly how I had to program my Compustar. Works like a charm. A lot of newer vehicles have to be programmed this way.
Kind of surprised they gave it back to you like that, unless you needed the vehicle. Should be a quick and easy fix though.
