2015 5th Gen Independent Fog Light

Does anyone know how to make my 2015 4Runner fog light run on its own rather than having the headlight on in order for the fog lights to be on?

It is so much more work on a 5th Gen compared to the 4th Gen. I did the mod on my 2004 it was super easy, but I a little gun-shy to do it on my 2013.

It would depend on how you want to accomplish this.....
one could bypass the stalk switch totally and pick up at the wires at the fog lights and run everything back to the dash using the usual; wire, fuses, relay and in-dash switch...
and just disregard everything else that "was" associated with the fogs.

Another Solution:

Here is my Wiring Diagram for running fogs without the headlights.
Note that it involves reverse logic...you have to turn "on" the relay which in turn, turns 'off" the headlights.

Here is where I got the Wiring Adapters....H11 to H9

You just unplug the factory harness from headlight, and insert the harness in place.
This allows splicing of the wiring without cutting into the factory harness.

I've done this type of mod to my IS and my Tacoma and agree with SOOTRD that this is complicated. Does anyone know where the actually fog relay is located, the link in OP that fog relay location doesn't work for 5gen. Would love to get this mod done with ease like my Tacoma.

So come up with an easier way then.

That's crazy that there is no plug in harness to do this. I got a harness for my Camaro that allows my DRLs (fog lights) to stay on all the time, I simply plugged the harness into the connection for the fogs.

Seriously? Its really not that hard, and definitely easier than installing a whole new circuit and switch (as well as new lamps) like that video shows. It didn't take me very long to finish the whole thing, with [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION]'s write-up, I did another write-up with a graphic for those who are more picture-savvy when doing mods:

While this is on a 2011, the wiring should be very similar, if not exactly the same, to separate the fog switch to its own circuit.

The problem that the 4runner has is the fact that the circuit is tied into the canbus system, and it has its own little brain that houses the relays. Its why you have to either forego having the foglamp idiot light in the dash, or install a separate led into the cluster. There is no way to tie into the circuit board in the cluster to control the existing led, unless you rip it all apart into pieces, dissect the trace going to the cluster's electronics (it sends data out from there, not just voltage to/from other things it has lights/meters for), then cut it from the brain and solder directly to the led in the cluster.

And, as for the Tacoma foglight mod, I was the one who wrote it up initially on TTORA back in '05 when I got my double cab! Yes, it was super easy to just bend the leg of the relay and attach a jumper to it to the parking light wire, but this isn't too bad either, you just have a few more wires to do. Luckily, they're all in the same general spot. :wink2:

Does anyone have an answer to this particular question of the fog light relay physical location? My fog lights stopped working on my 2016 Trail Premium. The fuse inside the driver compartment under the drives side dash is good.

I could use the help of the collective.

I want to use my switchpros unit to control my fog lights because I like the independent control, dimming function, and ability to use them as drl’s. It is my understanding there is no longer a blue relay like the one on my 200 series land cruiser. I dont have a problem cutting the wire downstream of the body control module and just picking it up there, but I dont know where that would be. Does anyone know where this is located as it seems much easier than running new wiring to each front fog light. Thanks
