Later Fog Lights ('13+) in Earlier Years ('11-'13)?

Anyone know how much finagling it takes to install later model (like 2020 LED) fog lights in an OG 5th gen (2011)? I poked around and didn't see anyone who's done it, other than folks saying it's possible.

Yes, they fit directly and have the same mounting brackets. I have the led fog lights (the reflector kind, not projector) from a 2020 that fit in my 2011.

Facelift (2014+) fogs will fit into pre-facelift (2010-2013) models, but not the other way around.

I just did a front end facelift-conversion and I had to get 2014+ fog lights as my 2012s didn't fit into the new bumper.

as long as the later models use the H11 plug connector and the same mounting points it should be fine.

with LED you might have reverse polarity and need to flip the plug around. if you have to flip it around you might need to trim , free up more loom

I would bet toyota uses the same plug set up and same mounting spots to make manufacturing easier. it's worth a shot. you don't need to take the bumper off, just take the under plastic trim off and reach from the bottom.

one caution. the screws that hold the pod in will most likely be rusted out. clean them out with a pic, don't strip them or you will have a bad day. they thread into plastic so be careful

Convert to led. Easy, quick and more light. Used Beamtech for the fogs. No moving parts for cooling. Don't have to worry about a little water reaching the backside of the light.

81220-YY020 doesn't fit

OK, I picked up a $30 pair of Rav4 fogs lights (part number in title) and they didn't fit.

The fog lights on the 2011 trail edition are held in by one screw thru the top outside tab, the bottom outside tab is unused, and the two inside tabs simply slide into pockets in the bumper housing. The location of each tab on the Rav4 light housing is about 2.5mm different from the 4Runner part, enough that if I index off the one screw and trim all the other tabs the light will be noticeably off center in the bumper housing. All the other important dimensions are pretty much spot on, so from a manufacturing/inventory perspective it seems like an odd choice by Toyota but it is what it is.

If I run across any equally cheap LED lights with the actual 4Runner part number I may give it another shot - in the meantime I'll just get some LED replacement bulbs for a little better output.

Thanks for the offer but I went with wcjeep's suggestion and they showed up this morning. Just finished the 2 minute install and they're _very_ bright. I'll need to see it outside in the dark to be sure but he's probably correct that these bulbs are as good or better than the factory LED housings.
