2015 New Years Trail Run

2016 NEW YEARS MEET UP AND TRAIL RUN

Description:
The meet will be Friday, January 1st. The run will be family oriented with a few stops at some "attractions" with time to walk around and explore.
The run will begin near the southern end of the park at/near Blair Valley. Then onto Arroyo Tapiado to get to the mud caves.
After the mud caves drop down Diablo Drop-off* into Fish Creek Wash to explore the slot canyons.
Make our way North out of Fish Creek via Split Mountain.
Then meander our way around the badlands* and the svra stopping to check out Squaw Peak and the Pumpkin Patch.
Head to the gas station near Salton City to refuel.
Head west a few miles to play around in the obstacle course.
Head to Fonts Point to wrap up the day.

Meet Location:
The corner of S2 and 78

Meeting time:
10:00AM at the corner of S2(San Felipe rd) and 78 for Safety and Trail Meeting leaving for trail head immediately after. Please try to arrive prior to 10:00AM, I will be there early. Departure should be NLT 10:15AM.
We will be stopping for lunch on the trail, so bring snacks and pack accordingly!

What to bring with you:
Good Attitude - This group is big(maybe haha)...we'll need to be patient with each other
Snacks, food, beverages (no alcohol consumption en route please)
Spare fluids for vehicle
Recovery gear if you have it.
Recovery point front and rear (factory hook is fine)

I would like this to be a optional camping trip but I cannot commit 100% at this time. For those that want to camp, speak up and I can throw some ideas out there and hopefully join you.

This would be a great first run, not challenging at all especially for a newer 4runner. Would be pretty hard to get some pinstriping if your worried about that.

Well I plan on refueling about 2/3 through the day, I would bring some just in case but it shouldnt be needed. I have a fairly limited range while on the trail 200-250+\- miles and have ran a similar roufe without problems. Where are you coming from?

Poway/Rachos Penasquitos area near where the 56 and the 15 hit. I google map'ed it and it said it's about 50 miles to the meet up spot.

Edit: looking at the map again, i'll probably top off in santa ysabela or in julian just to be on the safe side. i think my aunt and uncle have a few cans i can tie down to the roof if i really need to.

I uploaded that, you have some awesome points on there, thanks! What's "Get Lucky Point"? It's in a secluded area over there.

And I'm out. Was planning on a one day up and back to Backersfield, but granddad's back at his house in Bodfish which means an extra hour up (hour back down) the canyon so I'm getting a hotel room in Kernville for the weekend so as not to subject my car sick prone child to two canyon runs in one day. That eats into my play money for this run out of this pay check. Also have a Tool concert the following weekend so I need beer money for that. I'll keep an eye out for the next one, hopefully we can get something planned for King weekend.

You probably already know this but if not then trust me, as a trail leader or just on your own, YOU WILL WANT GPS, A NAV APP AND MARKED NAV POINTS IN ANZA-BORREGO.

This is because the trail signs are a joke and even on a clear day, having been out there multiple times I routinely miss them. The GPS and marked intersections is really what makes a difference for me.
