2015 SR5 4Runner Radio Replacement

I'm wondering now if I need to tap into that multi-media box on the passenger side to pull those connections..maybe that's where my phantom USB cables are hiding. I would think that once you go aftermarket stereo that multi-media interface loses all it's use..whether for the "Party Mode" button, steering wheel controls, or as multi-channel controller for the factory component system?

I purchased the AX-TOYUSB-2 TOYOTA 5 PIN USB ADAPTOR. The instructions say to connect to the Multi-Media Interface ECU*1. I think I can now get to it. I need to try it out first before I can explain it.

Maybe a week or 2 before I have to paint the Scosche and let it dry well. Also, I order the service from Crutchfield that mates all the wires to make it easier. They used crimp on connectors. If I got the radio in the first day, I probably would have went with them, but now that I'm taking my time to prep everything, I ordered another harness for the Kenwood connection and I am going to solder all the connections...

The Metra AX-USB-35EXT fits perfectly into the squared spot on the lower part of the console (NO. 1 Stereo Jack Adapter Assembly in your diagram), so if you are having issues, you can plug this adapter directly from the aftermarket radio into the spot used by the OEM one.

I'm going to have to check this out with the wiring diagram. This may be better than the other option that I'm looking at.

I found a similar thread on a Tundra forum talking about using the stock microphone, with some modifications...

I did a substantial amount of wiring, trouble shooting, building of power supplies, and legwork…to be beat by the OEM microphone amplifier. In the end I tried the simplest of things; I bypassed the Microphone amplifier and simply connected the factory microphone. This gave me a microphone that fit perfectly into the location and worked great. The OEM mic DOES NOT need the amplifier when used with the Eclipse head unit, and I can assume this is the same for all head units.

I tested with a parrot mic and the Eclipse mic, both held in numerous areas of the vehicle, and in ALL cases the Toyota OEM mic was the clearest.

To bypass the amplifier is easy, here it is:

Behind the factory radio, on the k7 connector, connect the following:
Toyota Brown wire = Tip + of a mono 1/8” headphone connector
Toyota Yellow = Ring – of the headphone connector

At the microphone in the headliner, Remove the mic and do the following:
1. Cut the four wires between the plug and where they enter the wire bundle.
2. Connect two pieces of wire to extend the Brown and Black wires, 3” works fine.
3. Mask off or heatshrink the extra wires.
4. Open the mic casing and expose where the mic connects to the amplifier.
5. Solder the new wires to the circuit board where the mic connects.
6. Connect Brown to the mic +, and Black to the mic -.
7. Re-assemble the mic and install in the vehicle.
8. Plug the mic into your head unit.
9. Enjoy the factory microphone!!!​

Any thoughts if a similar setup would work for our T4Rs?
