2016 Interior Trim Question

Hey quick question regarding the interior plastic trim on 2016's. Do all trail editions come with the glossy black plastic? I really dislike that plastic, I'd much prefer the satin finish plastics found on the SR5 and Limited's.

Also, has anyone swapped TE plastic for SR5? Thanks.

I would consider it but i don't think the Trails and Limited are swappable.may just the door

Ya I'm pretty sure the Limited dash has a different layout. SR5 looks to be the same though. I wonder how much that plastic costs.

Honestly, I prefer the silver as well. Center console is different because the Trail has the t-case lever vs the dial on the Limited and SR5.

I would have to agree ,wrapping it would solve your problem and it would be the easiest and cheapest fix. then you could wrap it in police tape ooo reflective, or a boring color.. I think the black looks nicer than the silver .looking forward to getting my new trail premium with the black plastics . I didn't like the silver so i flexidipped it black on my 2010 SR5 flexi dipp comes in grey :guitar3:

Another option is hydrographics. A lot of places that do painting or powder coating offer this. Not as expensive as you may think, and very cool. I'd bet it holds up much, much better than plastidip or DIY painting. I'm thinking about having my interior door handles done. Cheaper than replacing, and very unique.

It doesn't matter what interior you have, if it's not protected with some sort of vinyl or 3M static film it's gonna be scratched to hell in about a month... haha.

I don't believe the interior trim pieces are available for sale seperately (for instance the pieces on the doors).. the center console surely is however...

I think most of those trim pieces come fixed to the panels they're on from the factory, so it's not like you can easily pop them off and swap them out for other options.

I feel your pain because that glittery, shiny black plastic is probably the worst looking thing Toyota has inside a modern vehicle. Just awful.

Good call on the wrap, hadn't considered that. I like the idea of scratch protection too. I'm admittedly OCD when it comes to scratches on my interiors so this could help.

i sprayed my center console with Plasti-Dip. it had a smudge on it that i could not clean up. bugged the crap out of me.

The parts are the same as the SR5. I have the silver and I will tell you that the silver pieces scratch insanely easily. After about 6 months mine look like i use a wire brush to push buttons/radio knob/seat heater dials. Cheap painted plastic.

My 2016 TEP has the titanium brushed trans shifter that matches the passenger side dash trim. The head unit and door plastic is a glossy metallic paint look. Very pleased with both looks. Not sure how the others come

somewhere on here someone posted the 3M vinyl that matches the brushed titanium, if I was wrapping I would do it all in that versus a flat black or gray (or worse, fake carbon fiber).

I take the opposite approach to wrapping, its the same I take with cell phones, I let it get scratched up first and then cover it

That's funny I was just talking to my local car audio Guy and he was saying how nice the finish was compared to the silver on his former 4Runner. I have to agree and I also believe it will hold up better to wear. Only issue is all the dash kits are silver so I would have to wrap or paint the kit to do an aftermarket head unit.

Hey guys, Im about to buy a new 2016 White 4Runner but im stuck between SR5 Premium and Trail Premium. The only thing I don't like from the SR5 premium is the silver finish on the dash, center console, and door handles. I'm trying to avoid having to get the Trail Premium just for the all black interior finish. Since it's the same interior design, I was thinking maybe i could buy the Trail trim parts and install them myself on the SR5 from toyota or toyotaparts.bochtoyotasouth.com ??? What do you guys think? I'm trying to save $3,500 and keep a low montly payment by going with the SR5 Premium.

I guess it's personal preference but I think the sr5 silver interior trim pieces look kinda cheap, whereas the trail looks more upscale. The one I bought has a lot of silver metal specks in the black trim pieces. I like it.

I have the dark metallic paint in the TRD-Pro, looks great, your right it looks way better than the silver, i dont know why reflective trim pieces are installed near the drivers line of sight. Very hard to see when the sun hits those pieces just right.

You could also paint (or refinish somehow) the factory SR5 silver pieces as well.
