2016 Taco

Is that an ECT PWR button I see!!! ^

I just listened to the Live Chat, and they really didn't cover any interesting questions. I really want to hear more about the new V6.

From my understanding, the current vehicles using "Atkinson" engines, aren't true Atkinson engines, but
modified Otto cycle engine in which the intake valve is held open longer than normal to allow a reverse flow of intake air into the intake manifold.

I wounder if it uses the "Atkinson" full time, or only during low load situations, and switches to the standard Otto cycle during high load situations, like the Lexus 8AR-FTS.

They keep saying "All New" and don't have Power/MPG info released for it so I am ASSuming it is a completely new engine. I wounder if it is an actual truck engine, and not something they will use across other platforms, like CUVs *gasp*

Reliability will also be something that will be interesting to follow. Would a super complex NA engine be more or less reliable then a diesel...

Speaking of diesels, Toyota's engineer talked about how they didn't want to explore the diesel option because of the cost of R&D (Except they already have a perfect diesel engine for the Tacoma), and the additional $3k-4$ of Exhaust After-treatments they would have to put in place. That piece does make since to me. But after hearing what he says about diesel engines in the Tacoma, pretty much closes the door for us seeing diesel in a US Truck platform in the foreseeable future.

It was my impression that the pseudo-Atkinson cycle engines are more efficient but have lower torque. That isn't as much of a problem for hybrids, as their electric motors provide torque right at idle.

But if this engine is low on torque, that would not be optimal for a truck. Time will tell.

They are referring to systems like Merc and VW use - BlueTech and AdBlue

This thread seems like a really good way for me to get my first car payment. Must. Resist. :boink:

I lived and worked in CLE for 4 years, you don't wanna do that. But I digress....:focus:

Some years back I went on vacation with Mrs. M1911 to CLE to visit her parents. I told her "I'm going with you on vacation to CLE -- see? That's true love." SWMBO wasn't amused.

Having since been back and forth to CLE a number of times, I agree with you. You don't want to do that.

I really like what they did to the interior. "full size truck" interior style with (seemingly) all the techno goodies available in today's market. Front of the shifter reminds me of a Fortuner.

Well I like the new Tacoma. "All new" isn't quite right, but someone pointed out a "heavy redesign" which is more appropriate. The new interior layout looks promising and higher quality materials are long overdue.

I think Toyota was correctly conservative in their approach - as in - let's make it look a bit more like the Tundra and add some neat gadgets but not F with it too much since we have 70% of the market share and a supremely loyal customer base. This is completely evolution, not revolution. Hats off to Toyota I think they nailed this one.

...And jeez the new Chevy/GMC interiors still look cheap.

All new manual transmission!! Please and thank you!

EDIT: LOL at GM's attempt at a refined interior. Kudos to them though for being able to sell that shit...And as for those of you who don't like to new (or not new) Tacoma, look at it on the bright side, you have it easier than Nissan fans

I think the winner out of all of them is the Foretuner with it's marble-esc trim :photo:

I completely agree. However the GM faithful will buy the colorado in droves. (I understand that they sell b/c it's cheaper, blah blah, but it still boggles my mind that people continue to buy shit from them) That's fine, what's cool is that we MIGHT be looking at a taste of what Toyota MIGHT do with (hopefully) with a 6th gen 4Runner. MAYBE.

Whatever, the new Taco looks great so far.
