Those are nice, the blue accents help it stand out from the typical "fake bolts and shiny black XD/Fuel/ProComp/ect." rims you see every truck/SUV run these days.

By the way have you noticed any significant difference in the new Tacoma frame? Before I almost cut my finger back in September I took a look at a 2016 on our lot and the frame looked identical to the J150 that underpins the previous generation. I haven't looked at measurements yet.

Yeah, that's pretty much a watered down version of the "New Features" section on the 2016 Tacoma in TIS. Funny enough, they did the same thing in TIS where they touted how they improved the body structure and materials (which isn't a bad thing at all), but they completely failed to mention ANYTHING about the frame it's built on!

all those docs will give you a lot of insight on what may be coming to the 6th gen 4runner.

Yup, that's why I was so interested in what they did to the frame itself; because even the 5th Gen "New Car Features" showed some data about what materials the J150 frame was made of (granted there was never anything like that for the 4th gen so it's difficult to make a comparison of how much stronger the J150 is compared to the J120.)

But I do encourage members to read through those documents as it basically outlines the path the 6th Gen 4Runner will likely follow assuming Toyota is going to maintain the BOF/Off-Road Capable nature of the 4Runner. :)

...Also we're total nerds lol

order the last set they had on hand. they can still order these rims in the blue but it will be as needed. ordered thru Jordan x51837 at discount.tire.direct

use the 2015 17" as a reference point since the info on the 2016 is not up, but I was told its an exact match from the 2015 to 2016. the oem 265/65/17 tires will be a direct fit as will the tpms modules. also I swapped to the black lug nuts at no additional charge.

order should be here maybe by Friday if not by Monday.

will post pics once they are on the truck.

total shipped cost was $667 for just rims and lug nuts. will reuse the tires and tpms on the oem's.

You guys think the 2017 4Runner will be similar to the redisgned tacoma?

If it ends up being the 6th gen 4Runner in 2017, it's very likely.

The frame will most likely either be the same J150 platform or slightly updated in no discernible way (much like the J120 vs. The J150) like they did withe the 3rd gen Tacoma. The cab will be reinforced/updated for small overlap collisons, the rough dimensions Iimagine will be with 2~3in +/- the 5th gen all around. The drivetrain will be carried over from the 3rd Gen Tacoma, you may see some slightly different mapping in the ECU (would not surprise me if the "my 4Runner is sluggish off the line" feeling 5th gen owners are very familar with also carries over. The typical trim/option layout present in the 5th gen will also probably transfer over (some updated transfercases and axles may come over, I don't remember if the 3rd gen Tacoma got anything new in that department.) Depending on how Toyota feels the inflated pricr tag present with the 5th gen will probably stay, unless they're feeling generous. I also don't doubt that a TRD Pro editon will be in the works shortly after it releases and/or a year or two after (they might wait until the new Tundra and 4Runner hit the showroom floor to do a "big 3" release like they did with the original TRD Pro models.

This is all my own personal guess based off what Toyota has done in the past, what rumors I've heard on the "inside," and what is logical.

Post Note-

So now that I am back to work (modified duty for now...) I got to do a PDS (Pre-Delivery Service) on two brand new 2016 Tacomas. I have to say I really like them, the interiors are nice (though I have to admit I am not impressed that the manual seat does not have a height adjustment) and the upper level trims come with Smart Keys, the exterior looks familiar enough. Yet, when you really look at the sheetmetal you can see it's been redone a bit. The physical frame appears to be near identical to the J150 derived 2.5 Gen Tacoma, though I did notice one glaringly obvious thing upon inspection; the front cab mount just behind the front wheel wells is now much wider and longer than the previous generation. I imagine this is to improve the above mentioned small overlap collision rating. The vehicle is very nicely insulated and with everything off, windows up, and engine idling it has a soft almost diesel like tick/clack in the cabin (due to the high pressure GDI system); it drives well too, still lags a bit off the line... even with "ECT Power" engaged (most likely due to fuel economy, emissions, and torque band.)

have to agree, the engine bogs down as it try to get into 4th very quickly.

doing about 30-40 and you push the pedal it lugs in 4th until the ecu brain checks and kicks down to 3rd.

ECT button resolves this, but its a double edge sword. once you get up into the 50+ range it hunts between 6th and 5th a lot.

playing with sport mode helps a lot around town and highway driving with cruise on (any wind/incline bumps it down to 5th a lot).

overall a big improvement by the warden's standard (had a 2012) so she is happy.

I imagine the 3.5 and 6 speed will transfer over to the 2017 4runner, but in a slightly different tune and specs.

also to add, the entune head unit is a hell of a lot snappier than our entune units.

My neighbor just picked a new Tacoma last week, and his motor is very noisy from outside the vehicle at idle. The dealer told him it is normal, but it really has a diesel sound to it. The noise also seems to come and go. Sometimes it seems to idle relatively quietly.

That's how most Gasoline Direct Injected Engines sound. They are running about 500+psi in the fuel rails, not to mention that the high pressure fuel pumps are usually mechanical and driven off the cam lobe. They sound a lot like a diesel because the fuel system is basically a lower pressure version of diesel's in terms of the high pressure injectors, pump, and so on.

Had/have the same complaints with the FRS when it came out, I imagine the same issue with the Lexus D4-S engines if you took out most of the sound deadening they shove under the hood and such. But then again the 1GR-FE always had that "Ticking" anyways, so if anything owners should be used to it by now.

The engine was probably in the midst of one of its' self- cleaning cycles (which admittadly by Toyota) are noisy as hell. You can hear sound clips over this over on Tacomaworld or lexusclub. It's normal and just part of the engine ecu cleaning cycle when at idle.

How's the road noise (wind and road)?? Quieter than 4runner?
