Darn all this construction in Dallas!

My front windshield was cracked by a flying rock yesterday, due to the never ending construction here in Dallas! Ugh.

I'm trying to file a claim to the city (wish me luck), but in order for me to give them a quote, I need to give them a cost.

I saw two windshield, with the wiper heaters built in, but the difference is that one has "auto dimming" and the other doesn't. Anyone know if the 2016 Trail has "auto dimming" or not?

2016 trail premium front windshield

I had mine cracked about a month after I bought it and the glass company told me that a new windshield was near $1200.00. They also stated that Toyota windshield's were the priciest of all. I would check the prices again just to be sure. Good luck and sorry to hear about your windshield.

It's referring to the auto-dimming rear view mirror. They have forward facing sensors. I can't tell from here if you have one or not.

Ha! I just ordered a rear view mirror from them. Its basically Don Wood Toyota in Athens, Ohio. Have not received it yet (just ordered Monday night.) to give a review.

I have been through this process, twice, with my '15 TRP. Since my insurance policy originated out of the state of FL and I have comprehensive coverage, free glass. Still, I wanted Safelite to perform the replacement since I was in Mississippi both times and NO Toyota dealer does their own body or glass work in that state. IDK?

Regressing back to my point about the glass. It is preinstalled on the 4R in Japan, since every 4R is made there. The glass is produced by Nippon, and only produced in Japan. It is not Pilkington, and anyone telling you otherwise is trying to swindle you for your wallet and non-oem replacement.

The replacement companies will charge a premium for the glass as my Safelite bill was near $1,200. If I were to pay out of pocket and order the glass through partsouq.com, it would have been a measly $370 or $440 through a dealership.

Regardless, don't skimp on glass. you can inspect the front windshield for the logo on the lower drivers corner and you will see the NIPPON logo.

Great information!!! I did call the Toyota dealership here in McKinney and they also told me that they don't replace any glass there, so they gave me the company they refer the work to ... $350 total -- with heater and dimmer -- installed at my home too.

When I asked them what kind of glass it was, they said it was made by the same company that makes the Toyota OEM glass -- just doesn't have the Toyota logos on it. I'll call them again today to make sure it NIPPON.

HATE all of our construction.... took a rock about 5 months ago, but it only put a nice-sized knick in the glass.... no crack (yet). Couple more of these 100+ days, and I'm sure I'll walk out to my car and see one finally.

Mine was cracked on 380 in McKinney 2 weeks after I bought it due to the damn rock trucks. I am now on my 3rd windshield due to those savages.

I think my bill each time is between 300-400 per replacement.

So I just spoke to the guy coming to install -- he said that use Fuyao (FY) glass - which is a Chinese company - and said they they're one of the suppliers for Toyota. He mentioned five manufactures that Toyota uses -- he said one was bought out and one has had a bunch of recalls, so they don't use them. He says that FY is a very good glass and highly recommends it - especially for the price. He didn't mentioned NIPPON at tall, but when I asked, he said it's not used much in this part of the US... hmmm.

Either way, any thoughts on FY?

I need to double check the branding on mine when I go out for lunch later, but mine has stood up to some abuse. It literally looks like someone shot it with some birdshot out of a shotgun. It's withstood 5 years of torture in the Rio Grande Valley with 80 mile round trip commutes Monday-Friday on a rock infested highway. It only had one run, out of the millions of chips it still has, and that run only went about 4 inches and stopped. I had a windshield repair place stop the run, but all I have are chips in my windshield after getting tons of huge rocks hitting it going 70+mph. I'll get the brand and update later.

My impressions: Specs and appearance identical to stock, Quality is 8 out of 10 for few ripples at upper edge (but even OEM glass have those if you look closely), Lastly this glass is made in Moraine, Ohio and not in China. If you order OEM you will likely to get same glass with Toyota stamp for twice the price.

ha! I was very surprised my windshield crakcked so bad -- it was a little tiny rock that hit it, but I guess it hit in just the right way!

Dang! That's a good record, given the abuse your windshield has gone through.

I thought I was gettng Fuyao, but ended up getting LAMISAFE instead. Looks really nice -- don't see any imperfections at all. He did advise that I get new windshield wipers..said that road grime on wipers can scratch new glass and best to not risk it.

just a little on the side of this topic ... Farmers insurance (in Colorado) has a windshield replacement option. I think its $20 for 6 months and the windshield replacement is $150.

Not sure if they offer that in TX, but it could be worth checking into.
