Hi - recently purchased this new 4Runner and have a few questions. It came with the plastic film protectors around the doors. Is that something easy to remove with a hair dryer or should it be professional done? And also thinking of upgrading tires to ATR and the PRO wheels. And also want to ditch the running boards but looking for something that would look a little better or possibly leave off. I take annual trips to Colorado so would do some fire roads and easy off road trails so won't be lifting the vehicle. The 4Runner is silver and am wondering if the Matte grey or black would complement the vehicle better. Thank you in advance for any input you could provide.

I believe the film is a feature that protects the paint from road debris. It is always best to attach pictures that show what you are referring to.
In the upper right hand corner of the window should be a "google Custom Search" box. Most any question or modification has been explored quite thoroughly in a previous thread.

I am wondering the same and hope a hair dryer or heat gun will be good enough but have not seen any discussion of people taking these off.
Mine is a 2014 and the film protectors along the back edge of the rear doors are turning yellow which looks terrible on white paint. It looks like the running boards will do a good enough job at protecting this area and therefore the film is not really necessary.

Congrats on your purchase! If you want to remove them, I suggest just warming it up as you go and go slow. GooGone if there's any residue left over, and then wax it to protect the paint.
It's really personal preference on Matte Gray vs Black, if it were me I'd go matte gray, but you know what they say about opinions. I personally love the stock TRD OR wheels, plus they protect the valve stems, the TRD Pro wheels do not.

On the paint protection film, if you don’t plan to keep the vehicle waxed or sealed and clean I probably would take it off. I’m not sure how to do it yourself, but I would look for a highly respected Xpel dealer. They would know how to do it right.
On the running boards, I recommend Toyota part# PT938-89100.

I purposely purchased one without running boards because the plan was to install sliders. I left mine stock height without any running boards or sliders for the first 16,000 miles. Without running boards it looks fine and most 4x4 roads in Colorado can be done stock without a lift or sliders. Last Thanksgiving I drove up into Yankee Boy Basin no problems before I put sliders, lift, or new wheels on. You can buy sliders that can double as a step, but they aren't cheap and will add over 100 lbs of weight. They do look good though.
I put matte gray SCS wheels on my white 4Runner and I love them. Personal preference though. I think most would go with the black wheels. Grey doesn't seem to be too popular. SCS wheels are manufactured by the same company as the Pro wheels but have wider stance so consider them as an option. SCS wheels do not come in gloss finish though as I think the Pro ones do, at least in black.

I have the same exact truck and it came with the grey pro wheels and I think it looks way better than black. I just ended up taking the running boards off of mine, no sliders yet and have some pretty serious off reading under it's belt with zero damage, sliders are on the list though.
