2018 Calvary Blue TRD Pro going for MSRP...Does That Sound Right??

Just picked up my TRD Pro on Friday. Paid $800 under sticker for Calvary Blue in south Louisiana. Mine did not have the cross bars on the roof rack. The white one they have for sale on the lot has the cross bars. What's with that? OH, let me clarify this is the wife's vehicle.

Hi Everyone,

I’m new to the forum, but I’ve been lurking around for some time.

I’m looking to purchase a 2018 Calvary Blue TRD Pro. I’ve contacted a few dealers, and none will go underneath MSRP. Does that sound about right to you? I see some of the other colors going 2-3k under MSRP.

Thanks

I've watched TRD Pro's and other models for a few years now at local dealers. Like anything else, they want to sell whatever they get allocated and usually want to sell it most urgently at month-end and quarter end. So you probably have the best shot at wheel and deal on something already on the dealer lot and at the end of the month or quarter when they might be pressed to make their quotas to get the big kickbacks from Toyota. If you put your name on list to preorder, then dealer has no incentive to sell below MSRP.

I have debated buying 2018 TRDPro in CB color because I really like the limited color. I actually found one not spoken for last month in WA which is hard to do but it was marked up by dealer $5k with a brazen "Market Rate Adjustment" label + a ton of other over inflated dealer add-ons. I was allowed by the dealer to test drive it (most won't let you touch them because they are pre-ordered by someone and they don't want miles on the ODO). I decided based on test drive and research to negotiate. I offered MSRP and they immediately showed me the front door. No hesitation and no negotiation just flat out refused to sell it at that because they said they can get more.

I walked because I wasn't going to eat that $5k second sticker. Also they had some dealer addons like $300 "Safe breaking technology" which is a goofy alteration that makes the rear window break light flash four times before solid. if you search it online find a Youtube from manuf instructing dealers how they can make 8x markup on this thing. They also had tinted the front driver and passenger windows to match the factory tint on the other windows at double the price charged at a local reputable detail shop. Then they put on Digishield which isn't even the Toyota clear protectant and were trying to charge like $1,300 (Toyota's cost like $500 for same coverage). ANyway, bottom line is the dealers do know this is a sought after vehicle and can also be experts at hiding a ton of additional bogus price inflators or even say unapologetically... "guess what we're selling it for $5k more that suggested retail.... because we can." And they are right because it sold days later (perhaps to the other Seattle-based person on this thread).

Anyway, I might try to deal again if I find another but I think the situations are few are far between where people are getting these BELOW MSRP. So perhaps at MSRP is a win if you really like the rig. Who knows, by time I find another, they may have released specs on 2019 and I can find out if they add the sunfroof I want on the TRD Pro line!

Cheers and best luck.

Late to the thread, but that sounds like Heartland in Bremerton. Said they would sell to me a CB TRDP they had coming at MSRP but wanted to short me 4K on my trade in and slap all kinds of junk on the truck before it leaves the lot. I live in Silverdale and they tried shady tactics like that when I tried buying from them when I was hunting for my first 4Runner. Their service department is excellent but sales is shady AF.

If you’re still looking, Burien Toyota is where I just dropped a deposit for a CB TRDP at MSRP coming in next month. The sales manager was like “we sell no higher than sticker, and won’t play games with your trade in.”

I’ll be happy to pay the King County tax to know I’m not getting bent over.

I looked at one when I bought my 2018 Limited in SEA. The dealer would not even discuss a discount form the MSRP. With the accessory package I wanted, the walk away cost would have been 60K plus sales tax (10%) and licensing fees. That was far more than I could afford. Also the TRD PRO is far more than I need.

You guessed correctly. It was Bremerton with the $5k markup and shortly after that I found Burien and put deposit with them for same reasons you mention. Actually I just took delivery last week from Burien and am very happy. Straight MSRP... no games and I didn't trade but was offered very fair price had I wanted to and also beat my super low financing rate. I was OK with MSRP because I found out through direct experience that MSRP is a good deal before choosing Burien. Very happy with my new CB 2018 TRD Pro. You chose wisely putting the deposit with Burien, good luck getting it in a month though.... Mine was supposed to be April but took month+ longer held up in port.

Cheers JC

Small world! Your truck is the reason I’m working with Burien. They had 2 CB TRDPs listed on their website as in stock a couple weeks ago so I called asking if they were still there. They told me they were already sold but that conversation started the process. If you don’t mind me asking, did you use TFS for financing? If so, what was your rate? I don’t know how much influence the dealer has on TFS interest rates.

Congrats on the purchase. I’m stoked to get mine in mid-July barring any delays.

Yeah, I didn't mess around... been waiting six months so was driving it home within hours of it hitting their lot. Sales guy called as they were unloading it off the truck. And about an hour after I got there, the dude with that second CB TRD Pro showed up too so bet they were both gone that same day.

RE financing.. TFS normal rate is something in the 4's. I already had 2.59% approved and because of that Toyota agreed to beat it for the juice. I ended up 2.49 but I doubt they would have done that if I didn't already have it lined up with NFCU. NFCU rate beats anything I've seen.

Good luck!

Such a small world, that 2nd CB is me lol. As far as my trade in, im not happy with it. They keep playing game with me, i was there with my kids for a few hours so i gave up and accepted it

It took me 2-3 months to find one at MSRP. I got 18' white one ( good luck with a blue ) in California for MSRP plus low jack and dent protection for 1k. ( it was $1600 originally but I cut it down to 1k ) I didnt have strength to fight it much cause I called every dealership in California and everyone is asking 5-10k over the MSRP and I was ready to fly to Portland and get it there for 1k over MSRP ( with some stupid ass 1k package that includes full tank of gas and 3m door tapes.... give me a f break ). So I figured cost for plane tickets plus driving it back for 9 hours was not worth it and having a low jack and dent protection is better 1k deal anyways than full tank of gas package.
If you in California and started looking for one at MSRP (GOOD LUUCKKK, that's what dealers told over the phone ) I think its easier to find it in other states close by Oregon, Nevada, Utah etc and get it there or wait for the last day of the month and start calling every dealer in California ( LA is pretty competitive I think ) :cell:

PS. People Stop paying mark ups for TRD PROs! ) Dealers know that and they just seating and waiting for a prey no matter how long it will take.. :croc:
Those 2019's will be arriving soon and I cant even image what the MSRP and marks ups will be on them, especially with new fancy FOX shocks and Mark Levinson....NOT, JBL audio system

I dont get the fascination with this color. That has to be the ugliest ever. It looks like something you would use on a garage floor.

In Washington two dealers in the Puget Sound area charge straight MSRP... Doxon in Auburn and Burien Toyota. Either will put in preorder for CB color with $500 refundable deposit if that's what you want but it's getting late in the game for 2018. I put it in with Burien for CB because they had already gotten allocated two by the time I contacted them and they seemed to be a higher volume dealer being close to Seatac Airport and closer to Seattle so I thought they would have a better chance of getting another one (I was right). Further South toward Oregon there is a dealer in Kelso that also charges straight MSRP (forget the name at the moment) but Kelso would be WAAYYY less in in sales taxes for those in WA. All other dealers in the WA that I know of will mark them up. I also like Burien because they don't push all the POS BS on your like lowjack or blinky lights or dealer tint or 3m... nothing you don't want will be on your car so you truly can get it right off the menu from Toyota.com at the prices you see there. Assuming you line up your own financing before you in, then you truly are holding all the cards if you are willing to pay MSRP.

One man's garbage is another man's... Anyway, to each his own. It appeals to me and obviously plenty others so there you go. If you haven't seen it in person then I might suggest you try to because no photos I've ever seen of a CavBlue rig do it justice compared to being in front of it in person.

I am a total 4runner guy but I was actually sold on the color when I first saw it on a 2018 TRD Pro Tundra at a local lot while getting my oil service. That Tundra looked super cool and the service guy told me the TRD Pro 4runner special color for 2018 was the same so I shopped it online and at first didn't believe it was the same color I saw on the Tundra, then I started watching Youtubes and looking at pictures and none of them were as striking but after I saw that first CB 4runner in person at the Bremerton dealer it was every bit as awesome to me as the Tundra and I knew hands down that's what I wanted. You may still not like it even if you have seen it in person but I hear the same as my experience from many.

Cheers JC

PS - I feel the same as you about the 2019 special color Voodoo blue which to me personally perhaps fits on a FJ but looks wrong on a 4runner. I'm of the opinion like many that they should have done the FJ green color next instead of another shade of Blue.

Thanks for the info! But honestly I don't trust a single dealership out there. I find it f up for a dealer to sell a vehicle at above MSRP. Although I do like the idea of refundable deposit, California dealers not allowed to take deposits for some reason. Portland toyota wanted 4k deposit and it wasn't clear if it is refundable or not...

That's a shame. I made sure not to walk out until I had it in writing what my trade in would be. He said he could guarantee that value as long as nothing happens until my CB arrives, and it doesn't take longer than a couple months.
