Took my rig to RPM in Monrovia, CA after going nuts on Black Friday. All parts arrived and it’s install time! First camping trip to Death Valley in 2 weeks!!!

S&B cold air intake
GIBSON catback stainless exhaust with ceramic black tips
ICON stage 2 suspension kit with tubular upper control arms and adjustable track bar (for kdss equipped vehicles)

40" Rigid "midnight edition" LED light bar

Steve and his crew at RPM are the best! Why not go 285s? They have a fabrication guy who can do the BMC for you...make sure Al does your alignment.

You probably want to order an SSO bumper. it will fit a smittybuilt 12k winch and has the optional stage 2 high clearance/ side protection. Until you have it, you might want to avoid hitting water at speed. Saw two runner loose their valances that way last weekend.

bulk of my driving is on pavement and kdss won't be as useful with more and more height. 275 is the right size for my needs

Got yeah...KDSS is fine handling weight. Thousands of people run full bumpers, racks, RTTs, bigger tires on KDSS with zero issues.

I assume the same they’d hold up anywhere. They take a few hits they may need some reshaping but the difference in weight makes up for it given my vehicle use.

Steel all day over aluminum. It glides over rocks, can be re-shaped far easier, is less brittle, stronger, easier to touch up with a rattle can, stiffens the chasis, and is less expensive. People bring up corrosion? Most high quality skids are zinc base coated before powder coating and will outlast your vehicle. Adding 30-40 pounds to protect your entire drivetrain and components is well worth it.

And if you do tons of off-roading I’d agree with you. I get out once or twice a month and prefer not to have unnecessary weight. Sure it’s 50lbs there but it all adds up with racks, bumpers, tires, sliders, etc etc

At least the weight is being added as low as possible and doesnt mess with the center of gravity as much... compared to adding it to the roof, it's a good compromise with the added weight / protection.

After adding a steel roof rack, I could really feel the added weight up top. Would have been much better with an aluminum setup up top.

I’m not knocking them. I am trying to decide on a set myself and living in San Diego I’ve got the same rocky trails. Just bent up my factory engine skid today but it’s still pretty okay...

For sure, I didn’t think you were. I read hundreds of posts and opted for aluminum due to other weight I’ll be adding in roof rack and front bumper soon. I’ll put them through the paces and report back. Worst case I beat the crap out of them and order steel. Lol
