You guys all know that there's a set of aluminum long travel arms under that dust right? And they literally have light bars built into the Lower Control arms! But don't worry. They're high enough because the new spindles are portals. I'm so excited.
If it's worthy of this much press - a snorkel is a good start. Long travel suspension is almost a must to be seriously competitive with Raptor and ZR2 on paper (Tacoma is faster on dirt, but that doesn't sell as well as paper specs), add the Fox milti-stage bypass shocks to the 4runner, and if they really want to impress us - put the TRD tacoma 8.75 rear axle in with 4.30 gearing all around and 285s. And boom - just took the wind out of the new JL and Ranger with minor updates almost entirely from off the shelf parts.

It won't be an aftermarket part for a long time.
Good lord, people. If this is what it takes to get the fanboys excited there's a reason why Toyota has done the ABSOLUTE minimum to keep the 4Runner updated.
So yes, factory snorkels on the tacoma and 4Runner. It will be an option when ordering. Same fender but it just comes pre-punched with the mount holes and intake hole. I don't know about the A-pillar support but I would assume that's pre-drilled.
So you're basically just getting a safari style snorkel (it's not made by Safari FYI) that Toyota will charge you extra for during the ordering process.
As I said in the other thread, this just brings the 4Runner in line with options that Toyota offers on the Prado 150 in other markets.
The new TRD Pro is the same TRD Pro, it's just an updated appearance package when you get right down to it.

Why would you want a larger engine? The 4runner is a featherweight.
In other news - based on near final production specs - the 2019 GM 1/2 ton Crew Cab 4x4 will weigh less than a 2019 4runner.
. That means it's very possible the next Tahoe may literally be lighter than a 4runner.

I still own an FJ40 (my first vehicle), and it's...not a great vehicle. But that's for another debate.
The point being is that FIAT was selling JKs like crazy, and even so they updated it to the JL, and the early reports are that the JL is just about better in every regard.
Simply put...you CAN update a design even though it's selling pretty well and preserve what people like about it while making it better.

I already showed my hand in the other thread. Snorkel, they swapped to fox shocks, and a factory roof rack.
It's an appearance package.
I thought they'd definitely be offering a sunroof/moonroof option in the US to align with Canada.
Also glad to hear they swapped to Fox as the dealer confirmed my rear right Bilstein shock decided to randomly kill itself after 15k miles of relatively easy driving--replacement is on order.

TRD and Toyota USA have a long history of moving at the pace of molasses rolling uphill and against the wind. I was certain that Toyota/TRD would do something after the popularity of the Ford Raptor. ...then we got the TRD Pro. :noidea: ...and the "new", "sporty", and "exciting"!!!

Not so much that I was excited as I was hoping that there is more to this. In all honesty, there is a 100% probability of not.

The Fox shocks make sense. I, and others, have found the Foxs to be valved in such a way that they're (in stock form) softer on road, but require more tuning off road.
Whereas Kings feel great off road, but on road they need some adjustments in the valving.

Don't think Fox is any better. In fact, I think you are going to see a lot more issues, but probably much better performance. Hopefully it is a serviceable shock that can be tuned.... Maybe even an adjustable coil over up front (imagine that LOL)

Oh they're absolutely pandering to the Overland trend. Safari makes a fantastic snorkel already.
You're not going to save money by waiting on this TRD Snorkel, or whatever they call it (Scuba Steve Edition), so it'll come down to people saying "I want that because it says TRD. And those people most likely never needed a snorkel to begin with. But again we dress for the job we want, not the one we have.
