2019 TRD Pro's

North Shore Off-Road has a pretty good reputation. They have a couple different locations.

Regarding your new 2019 TRD pro, there will not be a JBL sound system installed. As seen at the Chicago Auto Show, it will have LED Fogs, new Basket Roof Rack and TRD Shocks. The rest of the 2018 features and styling will carry over to the 2019 model.

Congrats on getting your hands on this truck! It is a great ride.

TRD Pros are unicorns up here, I went with an available TRD Off Road instead and glad I did, the ride is much better on road where it will spend most of it's time.

May even have to forfeit my $1K deposit for the Pro as the dealership I gave it to had me sign a little "contract" to order the vehicle and after a couple of weeks haven't given my deposit back.

When the salesman told me TRD Pros won't be coming until April (probably salesman BS provoked when I started talking about getting an OR instead) I bailed on the idea and was very fortunate finding a different dealership with a vehicle available who really took care of me. Isn't it illegal to take a non-refundable deposit on a vehicle in Canada despite signatures, etc?

If they are so hard to find, I imagine you could find someone to basically buy you out. Maybe the dealership won’t even get a Pro then they will be obligated to refund your deposit. If you are persistent, I’m sure you can get your money back.

Unless you are going to be jumping sand dunes, the TRD Pro will probably be a bit of a stretch.

The Pro setup isn't miracle long-travel, multi-valve, adjustable, rebuildable suspension. It's a couple of fat tube Bilsteins or Fox shocks that use OEM rubber mount bushings and factory geometry.

Nobody should be jumping sand dunes with it. It's a mild upgrade at best. They do work great though. Got some cheap takeoffs from someone else and put them on my Trail.

I'm not worried about it as the worst case was comfortably accounted for in my decision to just jump on an available OR in one of my top two available color choices, etc. at a significant discount on a '19 Pro. I'm enjoying my beautiful machine now rather than wondering if the phone is ever going to ring... Thanks for your comments, cheers.

I am majorly ecstatic over the fact that we found a 2018 Pro available in our color of choice without having to order or pay more than sticker (which I would never do regardless).

The 2019's coming with the sunroof and JBL stereo upgrade in no way appeals to me because I prefer the vehicle without the sunroof (better for full roof rack/less noise and one less thing to break or leak) and the JBL stereo is a joke for the money. Now those items might be appealing to some as I have seen people complain about the lack of those options on the Pro in the past, but for a $3K+ price increase it's silly.

I wouldn't be opposed to the Fox suspension replacing the Bilstein external reservoirs, but I doubt the difference is all that noticeable in terms of performance and ride quality. Eventually ours will get replaced with an aftermarket lift anyway so it won't matter in the long run.

A dealership cannot legally keep your deposit money. Their has been no service rendered and no product provided. They have to refund it.

Also JBL Premium Audio which is nice. I tested the 2018 TRD Pro sound system when I drove it and it is crap (even compared the stock JBL system in my '06 SportED before I upgraded it). So at least upgraded audio is nice. According to press release, 2019 TRD Tundra and Taco also get the full complement of safety sense but not 4runner (although seems consensus is most people prefer no safety sense on 4runner). I was really hoping for sunroof but apparently no dice. I also want to see the 2019 Blue and how it is different or not from 2018 limited blue.

I just put down a deposit for a 2019 TRD pro at my dealership the other day, the same day Toyota added their 2019 4runners to the official website.

My build sheet shows it has the JBL premium sound included.

Pretty sure it does. If you build TRD Pro for 2019 on Toyota site and then click "see build summary" you will note is says 15 speaker JBL premium audio. Also there's the big fat orange JBL badge in the middle of the center stack on the photos.

I had JBL system in my '06 Sport. Not saying that is didn't sound OK, but assuming you're not completely satisfied with it, the JBLK makes it much more difficult to improve because it's amplified. I just put OE Audio+ setup (replacesd factory speakers with good ones and adds DSP Amp + Sub + harness to interface with stock head unit) in my 2018 TRD Pro and was simple because everything is line level and sounds amazing.

Yes it does. You can see it on website by customizing the 19 TRD Pro and then looking at the PDF build summary says power moonroof.

I have mixed feelings about this. Earlier in the year I was all about the sunroof as you might see in my posts from back then. I really struggled with the fact that through 2018, TRD Pros didn't offer it because I always had one in my previous rigs and enjoyed it so much in my '06 Sport ED.

But in 2018 they introduced CavBlue as the limited color and it really appealed to me so I decided I would put a deposit December and wait to see what happened when the 2019's were announced. In February at the Chicago auto show, they rolled out the 2019 TRD Pro line and there was no hint or mention of sunroof anywhere and the show models, the promo videos and everything else had Pro rigs without sunroofs. I had every reason to expect that 2019 would be another year with no sunroofs in Pro 4runners. I didn't care about the Fox shocks or JBL audio and I dislike the FJ-ish 2019 OE roof rack on the Pro almost as much as I dislike the electric "Voodoo Blue" color (personal prefs I know).

So I moved on. While waiting for my 2018 CavBlue pro on deposit down here, I actually renewed my passport and spent the better part of three months trying to get a 2018 CavBlue Pro from Canada because they have sunroofs on the 2018 Pro up there. But to no avail as the Pros are even more rare and in demand in Canada than they are in the states. Oh well. Most drastically, I even flirted with the option of putting an aftermarket roof in my Pro but couldn't bring myself to cutting open the roof like a tin can and trusting the trim shop to do a good job with ensuring it is a solid install to avoid future leak problems. Also no matter how good they do with aftermarket roof, you will lose your rigid stock headliner and be stuck looking at a rubber grommet around the glass on the outside. Nobody can duplicate the integrity of a factory sunroof because it is actually stamped out of the metal roof as part of the manufacturing process and therefore has nice rounded metal edges and then they install a rigid headliner to accommodate the roof.

SO - I've had my 2018 Pro for 3 months now and honestly haven't missed the sunroof. I actually like the more spacious headroom in back and enjoy how much quieter it is inside the Pro without the roof than in my '06 with the roof (again unavoidable with sunroof you will have more outside road/wind noise). Finally there is more versatility to aftermarket racks without worrying about covering the sunroof.

But when the 2019's went live on Toyota site I have to admit I felt a bit of remorse that no matter how much I researched and waited until the 2019's were rolled out in February that I still was not able to anticipate that a roof would be included on the 2019 Pros. So, part of me was sad but then I look at my beautiful CavBlue 2018 Pro with my great new OEA+ sound system that I put in myself and am have no regrets. Now if they redid CavBlue with a roof in 2019 or the ArmyGreen... might be a different story.

This will happen in 2020 because I'm picking up a 2019 and Army Green is the color I really want. Happened with my JK in 2012 and will happen again with my 4Runner.
