2020 head unit replacement question

Awesome. Have you had the glitchy unit out of your dash yet to see what inputs it has on the rear?
No. I'm waiting on everything to show up and some free time. Will have pulled in a week or two. My guess is that it has the standard features with factory harnesses and proprietary connections. Several speaker outputs and a camera input. All manageable if you're good with electrical work or finding premade harnesses.

NOt to hijack the thread at all, but my question is somewhat related.

Any way to hook a CD player to the 2020 unit? I’m a bit of an audiophile and still prefer CDs in many cases. I was thrilled when I heard they were introducing a new entertainment system into the car for this model year, but discouraged to also hear that they sacrificed the CD player in order to do so.

Maybe a 6-disk changer somewhere?

The easiest thing that I found is a CD player that plugs into the USB. There's several on eBay.

The other option would be to convert everything to mp3 (or whatever) and drop in a SSHD. This would be time consuming, but if you're not adding new CD's, probably the best route.

I have a 2020 and I'm replacing my head unit. It's buggy and the Android Auto implementation is terrible.
Mine was horrible too. I switched phones so I could have a tight USB port, new cable, and updated the head unit software. Since then, not a single issue and AA works great. Before it was locking up, buttons not working, disconnecting, etc.

I think that I just don't like the implementation. I don't have any drops or a bad connection. Just not a fan of how Toyota did it. I also could be looking for a reason to get rid of it, add a custom, hidden wireless charger and install a unit with wireless AA and carplay.

Its been 3 weeks, any progress? I'm just curious how much stuff you lose, headlight timers, door unlock etc

For WAY less than a JL Audio Fix 86, you could use an Audiocontrol LC 6 or LC 7.

I was planning on using a LC 6, but the pioneer amp i settled on had speaker level inputs.

DrewPeakoc - any update on upgrading your 2020 head unit. I could use some advice on how you handled radio and xm antennas. I am installing a Kenwood Excelon head unit using a Maestro MRR2, a TO3 harness, and a TO2 kit for antennas. So far I have no reception for radio or xm....

Would love to hear if you were able to successfully install yours.

You likely have the harnesses from the radio to the truck reversed for XM and GPS - they look identical and can be plugged into each other. Swap them and it will all work.

A little off topic...what JL amp you using? Thinking about a VXi700/5 to be able to use Tun to shape the sound...albeit not an entirely flat signal that you get with a FIX on the front end....just debating if the FIX is really needed.

I have a JL sub. The amp is a 5 channel Alpine PDX V9. Fits under the passenger seat perfectly. Do a search - I have an entire thread on here about my install.

I am pretty close to attempting this as I have found a decent price on a head unit and the wiring harness off a 2020.

Only problem is I have no idea what I am getting myself into.

I know this thread is old, but were you ever successful in retrofitting a 2020 HU into an older model (2014-2019)?
