2020 SR5P Steering Wheel vibrations

Have a 2020 SR5P that i have some RRW wheels and got a set of 275/70/17 BFG KO2s with a 3/2 lift. I've had the KO2s on since December. I took my car in for 5k maintenance in January and from there i've noticed a steering wheel vibration at 55mph-60mph, then it smoothes out after that. Dealer said for the 5K maintenance, all they did was rotate the tires and check fluids. So i took the car to discount tires and they rebalanced all the tires. I've had the tires rebalanced 3 times already over the last 2 months, and i'm still feeling the vibrations at around 55mph, but its not as bad as it initially was.

Before I go and rotate my tires back to see if thats a fix, anyone have any ideas on what else could be causing this?

I had someone tell me sometimes 1 tire can be "defective" in the sense that it won't ever be able to provide a smooth ride and the only "fix" is to rotate my tires back and have the defective tire always sit in the rear.

What are everyone's thoughts on this.

Search "steering wheel vibrations" on this site. This is a problem that many people experience. As far as I know, there is no straightforward solution.

Yep, mine does it with KO2's. When I first got them I had them balanced twice and that solved it. The next tire rotation back, balanced again, better but not perfect. Very annoying.

I think the balancing has to be absolutely perfect on a 4Runner. Make sure you get a road force balance if they didn't do that.

So you're still experiencing issues with it after your most recent rotation? Are ko2 that hard to get balanced?

I agree that road force balancing is a must with a lot of tires.

Also, since you have a different set of wheels, I would double check the hub bore. If it’s not to exact OEM spec, you’ll need a hub centric ring to fill the gap. You’d be surprised at this not centering the wheel perfectly.

The wheels were designed specifically for the 4runner and tacoma. Everything was fine prior to the first rotation.

My discount tire has a machine that says road force balancing, and that's what they used to balance my tires. Not sure if there's anything additional on top of that thats needed.

Sorry, I missed the wheels that you had in your first post.

The best way to isolate the problem, is to rotate the rear wheels back to the front, first. Move only one wheel up front at a time. If you’re issue goes away, then you have eliminated some of the wheels and tires. It could either be a bad tire or a bad wheel. Process of elimination is the only way to figure out what the issue is.
