22 Limited arrived without Running Board Kit

In Canada, all Limited models include running boards. Apparently, starting some time in 21 and due to supply chain issues, board kits were no longer available so Toyota shipped finished vehicles without them under the promise that when the board kits were available, the dealer would install them. My Limited was ordered last October and dropped this April. The dealer has no idea when they can expect board kits as some are still waiting for them since last year.

Has anyone taken delivery of a Limited with boards or received a board kit after taking delivery? Thanks.

If you don't want to wait, usually people give away the running boards for free or next to nothing. Probably a better route than waiting on the dealer or Toyota.

man, I had my running boards sitting in my garage loft for a long time. I would have given them to you for free but I got rid of them this april. honestly see if you really need them. if you have mobility issues or are carrying passengers that have issues getting into the vehicle then ok maybe makes sense to get them. if you want to use your rig as an adventure vehicle and hit some trails they will just get in the way

the running boards on the limited are also not very useful. there is not much stepping space and you need to put your foot in an awkward position to really get a good grip. forget it with winter boots on. they are OK and will work for kids but I never really found them useful

I use the little step behind the second row seat and the rear tire to get the the roof. or just stand on the back bumper

A similar situation occurred a couple years ago concerning the TRD skid plate. Because the skid plate was in short supply, Toyota put a hold on sales so they could keep the ones they had for production vehicles. I had to wait several months before I could get one for my SR5.

I'd get rid of mine but the kids still use them so they'll stay. SR5.

Are the limited running boards different/ power running boards? Looks great without them.

Ya, I'd contact Toyota and tell them its not an option, it was a marketed item for the vehicle when you bought it. I would imagine the law is pretty clear (even in Canada) and could be considered a bait and switch. Again, the vehicle was marketed with X, Y and Z and the expectation of having them is real and the amount of time to fulfill their obligation has been too long... unless you signed a document agreeing to wait, which I am pretty confident you didnt. Either credit you the OEM price for the boards, find you a set of boards or take the vehicle back.

I feel pretty confident they wouldn't accept a partial payment every month until you produce the money to pay them what was promised...

I hate the running boards on my 21 ORP. They are always dirty and water/mud just seems to sit on them making them even more dirty all the time plus slippery.

I would just see if the dealer could refund the cost of the running boards and then put that money into some nerf bars or rock sliders.

IMO, I think your limited looks great without them. Nice clean look, I want to remove the stock ones on the wifes SR5 but she likes using them. Im gonna look aftermarket when have a little extra $$$$ around.

I'd ask the source of your confidence, as this is exactly what Ford and Chevy are doing for their units. They're putting in writing that the vehicle you're buying is optioned for heated seats or start/stop tech or whatever, and will be retrofitted by the dealer for no additional cost when the necessary components become available. I would be shocked if the TS took delivery of the vehicle knowing the boards weren't on there and DIDN'T get signed documentation of the remedy. What kind of moron says "yeah i'll trust the dealership to just do the right thing in a timely manner"?

I'd ask the source of your confidence, as this is exactly what Ford and Chevy are doing for their units. They're putting in writing that the vehicle you're buying is optioned for heated seats or start/stop tech or whatever, and will be retrofitted by the dealer for no additional cost when the necessary components become available. I would be shocked if the TS took delivery of the vehicle knowing the boards weren't on there and DIDN'T get signed documentation of the remedy. I like the look without the boards but I'm a little height challenged so I'm concerned that without the boards, I'll wear down the drivers seat sooner than normal with getting in and out.

That's ridiculously frustrating, sounds like the only thing you can do is stay on them and hope the squeaky wheel gets the grease sooner rather than later. Would say to look into buying/having installed in the states and then flipping the ones your dealer eventually delivers but you're almost guaranteed to lose money on that endeavor.

If you were closer to MI than NY I'd offer mine up. I've got the power extending/detracting boards on my '15 limited and they were disabled via the dash button about 2 hours after leaving the dealership.

that makes sense given I had to order replacement tailgate lift struts from california. I tried to get them from a dealer here and they said no stock in canada, closest was Tennessee. so I bought them from a california dealer on ebay and had them shipped here in a couple weeks

same issue I had with MAF screws. wanted new ones. no stock anywhere. took about a month to get them, no idea where they originated from

It’s tough to picture without seeing it in person but the OEM running boards are absolutely useless on the Limited as mentioned in a previous comment. The lower rocker panels on the Limited eat up so much space leaving at most 2” of stepping space rendering them useless and almost downright dangerous in slippery conditions.
