22-RE Erratic Idle

My 92 just has been idling erratically lately.Every once in a while the idle fluctuates between 800 and 1300 (roughly).I've read a few posts on here about cutting the brake wire to the ecm and adjusting the idle but my question is;why did this start to happen?The truck ran great last fall and all thru the winter now it does this.Could there be a bad sensor?

Check the simple stuff... air filter, spark plugs, run some seafoam or some sort of fuel additive through your gas tank, ect.

How many miles since your last tune up?

Its definitely been a while.I bought the truck last year for a winter beater and haven't done anything to the engine besides change oil.I'm not sure what the maintenance history is.I was just wondering where to start looking without replacing a bunch of parts.Its run great all winter up till now.

it might be your vacuum hose as well. my 91 was doing the same thing, and i had a leak in the hose.

Definitely check for a vaccume leak. Usually its easy to listen for one. But even the silent and minor vaccume eaks will cause phantom idle issues along with gas milage woes.
