22 RE How Many Miles?

I have '91 w/ 255K miles on it. It's still running well enough. My mechanic tells me it's not uncommon to get 300K miles on these engines. Just wondering how many miles some of you got of it before you had to rebuild.

Had an 84 it was a hand me down almost 315K Before it was sold off.
The 4runner had 180K before I swaped it out since I had nothing better to do.
My 85 I rolled and put the motor into the 4runner at 125K It just got rebuilt at 135K It was not needed but figured what the Heck the head gasket is blown why not take care of everything.

Depends on how it is treated. The 22R/RE runs great for a while, then OK forever (almost).

You're on the edge, but keep the oil changed every 3K or so and keep going.

I have 343,000 on my 88 4runner and it is still going strong. Runs better than others with half as many miles. All in how you maintain it.

sold all my 22R stuff while it still ran strong. My 4runner has 266k on it and runs decent.

had a 79 with 20r on original timing chain AFAIK (gotta love the double rows) that had over 420k when the speedo cable rusted. Drove the car for another 8 months and the frame split in two.

sold the motor 3 years ago and as far as I know the car it was put into is still on the road. I see it every couple weeks.

Ive also had a 20r spin bearings at 160k and another loose compression at 120k. Both due to poor maintanence.

That's awesome. Are you doing anything special in your maintenance routine? Are you using synthetic oil or oild additives? I'm burning about a quart of oil every 3,000 mi. but my mechanic tells me that's no big deal and still has lot of miles left.

I have 226,000 on mine. It's my daily driver/mud machine/trail machine/whatever and it runs like a top.I run all amsoil in it, the fully synthetic, and change it every 6,000 miles, sometimes sooner depending on how much i hit the mud.

It's all in the maintence. My dad has an isuzu I-mark diesel with over 700,000 miles on it. But he keeps the maintense regular on it.
