Alright, so I am now I proud owner of an 89 4runner! 22R-E
Appears to be in fine shape for its age. Rebuilt engine last year. NO RUST. Original Paint, clean interior. 3" binder filled w service records and receipts. Rebuilt A/C-cold as ice...Previous owner used to work for Toyota, two bins of spare parts. You get the idea.
Only concern now is the engine idle. 5 SPD, so in nuetral it can sometimes idle high at around 1300 RPM, or kind of rev up and down while it idles...between 900 and 1300 RPM. When I turn on the A/C it tends to do this more.
After driving for some time, it seems to subside, but honestly, I just got it Sunday so Ive barely driven it 100 miles...so kinda hard to judge. Previous owner, who has been very responsive to answer any questions, etc, said that it was common for it to idle high on cold starts, until the engine gets up to temp. Although once it's up to temp it can sometimes still idle funny. Seems sporadic.
I'm going to take it to my Toyota guy in the next week or so, but just figured I'd throw this out there. Wonder if it's a vacuum pump or vacuum tube - I'm obviously not sure.
