Hey guys, more questions from a rookie 22re owner....as I said in a previous post I am trading for a 94 22RE 4wd truck w 240k that has sat for about 6months. I put fuel stabilizer/restorer in tank, had to jump it and give'r a shot of Sfluid to start her up....was running a little rough at first then smoothed out nicely for a few minutes. Then she started acting up and I could hear an exhaut leak coming from somewhere near the engine....not sure if it is on the manifold, down pipe form the manifold or the gasket(s) but there is a leak close to the engine somewhere....after the leak happened she had trouble starting and when she did start it only ran right for the frist 5-10 secs and then as it started to idle down she started badly coughing and sputtering and would "conk out"....if I gently feathered the throttle just right I could get her to idle up and run but as soon as you let off the gas it would start acting up again OR if I gave it too much throttle and didn't feather it just right she'd "conk out"
Anyway, my question is this....I assume there was condensation in the fuel line so could very easily be some bad fuel, but why wouldn't it have acted up like that initally?....it only seemed to do that after the exhaust leak started. I'm thinking that there was a rotted gasket or bad rust spot somewhere in the pipe and when we got her running it blew out the bad rust spot or gasketing leading to the leak and maybe there's not enough "back pressure" to run right?.....or maybe just a combination of the exhaust leak and the fuel?....at the end of the day I also noticed I had forgotten to install the fuel cap after I had added the stabilizer, so I'm sure that didn't help either...?
Anyway, I know little about these engines and figured I'd ask to cut down on my learning curve. Thanks in advance.
Anthony
