22RE Oil Leak

I just replaced the timing chain, cover, water pump and oil pump, because the old chain had wore through the timing cover. Now i seem to have a oil leak but i cant tell where it is from. When the truck is running the oil collects and drips from the center of the cross member and gets flown around by the fan.
Could the crankshaft seal leak if the crank bolt isnt tightened down enough? The back of the pulley was wet and it does not look like the pan is leaking or the back of the timing cover is leaking. I have spent the last week messing with this truck and I just want to close the book on it.

I just went out and looked at it again. The back of the crank pulley is definately leaking. The seal is brand new (new oil pump) and it never leaked before. Would tightening the crank bolt help?

Only if the balancer is not seated properly in the seal. If you belts line up your probably okay. did you lube the seal prior to start up? If not it may have gotten hot and glazed.

No I did not lube the seal. Also I read elsewhere that the top oil pump bolt needs rtv so that it doesnt leak around the threads. Is this true?

I just did the same repair (with headgasket), also didn't lube the seal, but did put RTV on that oil pump bolt and I'm not leaking. Its worth a shot at least.

I remember something from when I did my front end that it was possible to install the oil pump incorrectly and block one of the holes... Could also be an issue.

I took the oil pump off and the seal look damaged like it was cut. So I put a new seal in making sure to lube it, put rtv on the bolt and put it back together. I think it may leak a tiny bit but nothing like before. I may have leaks elsewhere too Im not sure. Ill see how long i have to go before I put oil in it and if its not too bad Ill leave it. Its to cold to be working on this thing!

Do any other timing cover bolts require rtv besides the oil pump bolt?
