22RE Possibly Misfiring?

About a week ago my engine started running a little sluggish. At first I thought it was a bad gas issue, so I put a bottle of gas treatment in a full tank. Not the case. Then I pulled the plugs and they are clean, except have a rich gas smell. I returned the plugs, cleaned the connectors, started her up again with the same low rpm result. I think that I might not be firing all 4 and just running on 3. Any suggestions how to further isolate the issue? Thanks.

With the engine running, pull each plug wire off and listen, the sound of the engine should change.

If you really are running on 3 cylinders, when you pull the bad one off, you will not hear any difference.

I went through a dead 1st cylinder a little over a year ago. Try the trick of pulling wires one at a time while running, if anything it's amusing to hear it run on 2 cylinders....

After that, check for spark, compression and fuel. For me, one of my injector connectors went bad and needed a little drop of solder to fix. But it could also be a bad injector, bad spark or lack of compression.

Just wondering how many miles since timing chain was replaced. My neighbor had the same complaint and found out his chain and associated parts were worn and it had jumped a couple teeth. Caused sluggish running.

Apparently the 2nd plug was bad. I replaced it and now the only things left to check out are the mixture ratios. It isn't running as poorly, however, I think that some of the set-up might have been screwed up while it wasn't firing.

Try and clean the throttle body with a cleaner.You can find them at any parts store.I've fixed many with this problem.

im having the same problem #4 spark plug looks rich compared to the others compression is good and so is the timing but runs like crap has good spark everywhere how do you pull the injectors? or would that not be the problem?

Is the throttle body the same as air intake manifold? If yes how do u clean it Do u remove the air intake hose and spry it directly on the manifold?
Would seafoam treatment help this issue? ( I have a similar problem)
