22re rebuild help, anyone???

so for my graduation present my parents were gonna pay for the stuff to rebuild my engine, and i was gonna buy a new clutch for it cuz i figure it would be easier to put it in with the motor out. my parents figure thats way cheaper than another truck. "i dont want a different truck" anyways so... i would like to rebuild the whole thing. top and bottom. ive seen kits on ebay and places but i wasnt sure if anyone else has a nice build thread with a total price at the end. just thought i would get this out of the way before college so it doesnt take a crap in the middle of the semester or somthing.

or if anyone has done it and has tips, parts needed, prices, or really anything i would help.

What about just buying a lower milege/better condition motor and swapping it in?

People seem to really like the quality, price and phone support at enginebulder.com. Are you on yotatech? There seem to be a lot of people there who routinely rebuild engines and could give better advice than I. I know I've read to get an OEM Toyota clutch; that eBay clutches and other aftermarket clutches have quality issues. Congrats on your graduation!

nope i have never rebuilt a whole engine but i have replaced a head gasket on a 87 truck, i will have block bored out most likly. and i will have the head machined while its out. i think my number 4 spark plug is cross threaded so i will have to take the head off and try to get it out then, i mean if the plug breaks then its way easier to take it to get it fixed while the head is off.

i like that page with the build your own kit. i will probly order somthing off there unless i can get a better deal at auto zone or somthing. my mothers husband works at a desiel repair shop and has a commercial account i use quite often. so we will see

Take your time , go slow and if in doubt about a part, replace it. This is how we all learn, congrats for taking on a challenge.

so... ive been looking and it would almost be cheaper to buy a long block out of portland oregen and then sell mine. rather than rebuilding mine. that way also i wouldnt be out of service for that long. any imput on that???

i found one that is 700 completly rebuilt, i just need to keep oil pan, timing chain cover, rear main seal bolts and a few other bolts... i give them a core and i get the new one. 1 year warrenty. hopfully all goes well
