I need some advice from the 4runner masters. i found a 2000 4 cyl. 5 speed, with 230k miles on it. It also has a TRD/ alpine supercharger installed that was put on with 180k on the engine. The 4runner is very clean, and has lots of goodies, but I am wondering if it's a real headache with so many miles and with the s/c installed. Does the s/c kill engine life? How much longer could I expect the engine to last? Is it just a bad deal altogether? Thank you.

I think most people would agree the s/c does kill longevity of the engine life, it doesn't have to, but the expression that springs to mind is :
"ridden hard and put away wet"
With that kind of temptation one would think it has been used up pretty well.

Alpine made the Supercharger for TRD, then when TRD discontinued them soon after, alpine sold them under their own name. I think the owner took very good care of it, but 230 is a lot, and i dont want to buy and have to put an engine in it soon.

that's a 2wd 4cyl with a supercharger, is that what your looking for? If so, try get him to the price your willing to pay. If not keep looking.
It looks clean, you have to run high octane (91) with a supercharger, I was going to say you won't lift it and put bigger tires on it but I have no idea what your plans are.

This may sound like a stupid thing to ask, but are you sure you want a 2wd 4Runner? I only ask because there are a few members here that bought 2wd's when they really wanted a 4wd and simply didn't realize until it was too late. It's easy to assume that an suv, especially one with a 4 in it's name, is 4wd when it's not.

Yes, I know it is a 2wd 4 cyl. I have always owned 4x4s and never used the 4x, so I want a 2wd. I would prefer the 3.4, but there's not a 2wd 5 speed available. Thanks for the heads up though.

read up on the Superchargers...
I believe there are things that can be checked on the super charger but I only know about them from what I read. So do your homework accordingly by reading up on this forum and Yota Tech for example.
It's not uncommon that the S/C needs rebuilt seals or something like that. If it has excess play or wobble in it that may be a symptom of that.

It does appear to be a well kept ride. But it's a base model truck (note the stick antenna and no cargo cover in rear, also no SR5 badging on back of hatch) with no leather seating,no 4wd, no sunroof?
It all depends how well the records have been kept up and the maintenance along the way. When was last timing belt and waterpump done? Or perhaps the 4 cylinders are the timing chain instead of the belt?
