Lol, I don’t disagree, especially since seeing a bunch of f!!king Subaru's driving around here with RTT’s on them, no way those racks are rated to hold that weight, even static. Sad fact is you can get a decent RTT for the twice the price as a good ground tent, and they’re are damn comfortable.

You think that little hard shell deck of cards will keep out a bear? Observe what black bears (not grizzlies) do to cars in Yosemite NP.
It may keep out a mosquito or a squirrel. LOL.

Ok oK im in IF they throw in some matching LED head lights and reverse lights along w/ raptor lights with decals and definitely gonna need a subwoofer and tweets and S&B/TRD combo intake for the extra 1hp along with dual battery it along with a back tire rack so i can carry spares w/ some 285LT rated tires and a winch with a crane and a tow along port o potty and machine gun mounted to the front and cabinet shelves pullout system with a cooler fridge system with a 12v to 110v conversion with an on board air system with an extra 50 gallon undermount gas tank to supplement my 20 so i can go from alaska to south america without filling up ever.. along with 10w50 shell rotella to prevent freezing in cold climates and extra slick lubrication in the sahara.. oh and oh if someone could just invent a hoover boat system for the 4runner so i could off and on shore just in case.... oh and amsoil amsoil amsoil is a must!

My thoughts exactly. If anyone thinks a sheet of "carbon fiber" is going to keep out a bear, they're nuts.
Plus, one of the perks of roof top tents in general that I keep reading about is they keep you off the ground away from scary animals (eye roll). Any bear, cougar, lion, tiger, whatever will have no problem jumping six feet to eat you in your roof top tent if they want to. That's just a BS reason people have come up with to justify spending $2K+ on a tent.

Emergency Funding: Governor Newsom directed the first allocation of the $500 million in emergency funding recently authorized by the Legislature for COVID-19 related activities – $150 million for local emergency homelessness actions. To deploy this first funding allocation, the state will provide:
$100 million directly to local governments, for shelter support and emergency housing to address COVID-19 among the homeless population, and $50 million to purchase travel trailers and lease rooms in hotels, motels, and other facilities in partnership with counties and cities to provide immediate isolation placements throughout the state for homeless individuals. That's 6000 of these tents.
OUR TAXES ARE GOING UP AGAIN.

I'm going to drive to Cali and tell them I'm homeless in that State (because I will be while visiting) and get old newsom to buy me one of these glorified tents.

Yeah, I'm aware of what bears can do ... I spend a lot of time in the Sierra Nevadas (incl. Yosemite) and Wyoming/Montana. Without having seen this particular RTT, I'd still take a hard side over a soft side. FWIW, a determined grizzly could easily rip apart your RV in Yellowstone (for example) if it wanted to. Thing is, it generally doesn't want to. I often sleep inside my 4Runner in Wyoming/Montana... which a bear could rip open... but they don't. And, in the case of my 4Runner / your RV / this hard-side RTT, in the absolute worst case scenario of a bear trying to rip it apart, at least you'd have ever-so-slightly more warning than the 0.01 second warning you'd have with a soft-side tent.
Not that I'm going to buy one; I won't... but being soft-sided is my big hangup with RTTs for use in grizzly or polar bear country...

What I’ve been doing is placing mothballs around the perimeter of my truck to disguise any smells. That and leave nothing inside that looks like food or a food wrapper or container. So far so good, no break-ins. One time a bear broke into two cars on either side of mine. Their mistake was having visible empty potato chip bags in the back seat. And gum wrappers.
I think being high off the ground may be good deterrence too. At least it would make *me* feel better!

Mark, were the break-ins in Yosemite? The Yosemite bears are “bad bears”—though less so than several decades ago. You have to be really careful with them and smells (or even some shapes) in your vehicle. That said, I’d worry less with them for my personal safety than Wyoming/Montana bears—even black bears. But behavior is different regionally. You can sleep in your car with food around Jackson Hole—even in heavy grizzly areas—and they won’t bother you. Do that in Yosemite and you might have an interesting night!
