+25 Miles per tank

So I got my oil changed for the first time after buying my '97 Limited 4runner. I've been getting pretty awful mileage..Like 210 per a tank until my light comes on. After changing my oil I've know got between 235-245 Miles per tank! I know next to nothing about cars..But should an oil change real make that drastic of a difference??? I had no lights on prior to the oil being changed and have records of changed and did it 3,000 after the last one. STOKED!

It certainly can - if the engine is properly lubricated the parts will move easier and the internal losses will be less than if the lube is dirty/broken down/etc. All the oils (tranny, diff, engine) will affect the mechanical efficiencies. Glad to hear it helped out so much!

It doesn't necessarily have to be THE cause, but it definitely can be A cause. Go ride a bike with a dry chain on it and tell me how much fun that is...

Perhaps the previous oil was either bad or broke down early for some reason - or maybe a crap filter?

LOL, in all seriousness I'm happy you picked up an improvement. I've long suspected my poor MPG's are due to drag somewhere in the driveline. The motor runs great.

And mine has improved tremendously, I'm averaging about 17 right now, much better than the 14 ish I was at before

Didn't you say you thought you had an exhaust leak somewhere? Did you find it and fix it?
