255's on 8" rim

Anyone have any experience with a 255/85R16 mounted on a 8" wide wheel? I know the specs for the ST Maxx say 6.5-8.5 is ok, but I am also trying to account for airing down occasionally. I don't want the worry of a bead popping off if I can prevent it.

I am looking at either keeping my sr8's or switching entirely to a 17x7 for a narrower rim for the 255's. Looking for some input before making the decision.

How low do you go air pressure-wise in your area? 7 inch wide rims would be my preference with that width tire but I would not be worried being at 10psi on an 8 inch rim. It also depends on what type of wheeling. Going slow and losing a bead usually just means getting out the CO2 or air compressor and the ratchet strap - 10 minutes max (I don't do the lighter fluid or other flamable liquid route).

Just don't purposefully do things that put lateral load on your tires. I was amazed at how many people I saw lose beads by not lining up straight on to winch people out this winter.

20psi average, maybe 15-16 if I feel froggy.
