265/70/16 to 265/75/16 ?

Well, with the raining seasons coming soon.... I need some new tires for the 4runner.

I have some questions....

1. I narrowed down to these BFG All terrain, Toyo Open County A/T, BFG rugged trail or the Bridgestone Revos.

I would like to know which one is better.
I do mostly high way driving with Moderate offroading.

2. Prices.. I got quotes on the BFG A/T and they were $903 for the 265/70/16 and $740 for the 265/75/16... How come there is a difference between the two? Should I shop around some more for it or???

I haven't got the quotes with the other ones....

3. Would I be able to run the 265/75/16 instead of the 265/70/16 without any issues? Any rubbing? recalibration of the speedo? Mpg Decrease?

The 265/75's will work fine no rubbing. You shouldn't notice a MPG decrease it'll be so small if any. Most ppl report there speedo actually gets corrected with the 265/75's. Mine was is actually right with the 265/75's now. It was a little slow before. As for the price difference maybe because the 265/75's are a more common size otherwise you got me there. The tire choices aren't bad. A lot of ppl here and on yotatech have the revo's and love them. They would probably be your best choice or I would go with the Toyo's. Those would be my 2 final choices in that order. Good luck.

+1 for Revos. Excellent tires, aggressive tread that is still relatively quiet, although my tire roar is probably droned out by my exhaust of constant bumping bass as of late. But anyways, the Bridgestones may be a bit pricey, but I feel that these are excellent in the wet stuff (including a Northern Indiana winter). I feel more confident going into a wet corner with the Bridgestones than going into a dry corner with my old Cross Terrains. The soft compound really makes a difference, and I have almost 20k on mine since January, and they look to have at least 85% tread life left.

Sounds like the Revo's would be good if you don't do more than the occasional weekend offroading. They are far superior for wet or high speed traction.

Going up to the 75's from the 70's should not be a problem. You will see a little loss in fuel economy because you will compensate for the extra force it takes to get the wheels rolling by applying more gas.

Mine cruises much better on the highway because it now revs in the sweet spot at aroung 70-75mph instead of 65-70mph like before.

I don't have any first hand experience with those tires, but I have read enough to maybe offer some advice. The Revos seem to be a solid tire and not many people really ever complain too much, same with the Toyos. The BFGs are good tires that last forever, but you mentioned rainy season and they really are not a good rain tire. Many people have experienced hydroplaning with this tire, including my brother on his F350.

I mostly wanted to point out the rain thing. Most people won't admit that BFG might not be the best tire for everyone so good luck with your tire search.

The 75 series is alot better for the 4runner than the 70 series.

I am going to try these. I read some good reports on them. Any of you have tried these. This is my first 4 runner and yes I am into offroading also. I got bit by the yota bug, I did have a 2001 TJ Jeep wrangler. I have seen alot of yota's on the trails and I am impressed with the toyota reputation. I just purchased a 2002 SR5 with 101k on it 1 owner for 8500, Options leather and 16inch wheels and limited flares. Will FL TRD wheels fit . ANy feed back is welcome as I want build a good daily driver plus trail rig.

I average about 21-22 mpg on highway with my 265.70.16 .

Why is it that I've read on this forum a million times that 265/70/r16 is the largest you can go?

Do you have a lift?

Even when I got my 265/70, it rubbed a tad on the top end of the mudflap where it is mounted.

Does everyone mean 265/75/r15?

Like i said I didn't really notice any difference MPG. Maybe one MPG max. I see about 20-30kms a tank difference sometimes not even that.

AND ^^ 265/75/16 is the max you can go on stock 4runner.

I didn't notice any difference other than the normal. To my understanding, unless you get your speedometer calibrated you will not get an accurate idea of how many miles to the gallon you are getting. Because in the same rotation you are traveling farther.... or something like that.

Anyway I went from 265/70R/16 to 265/75R/16 with no rubbing and no noticeable decrease in mileage. And it rides better.

I opted for the General Grabber AT2's and they are great. Slightly more noise than the stock wheels but not enough to worry about.

One thing I forgot about was my spare is a 265/70R/16. If I were to put that on in a pinch would that trash my axles? Should I go buy another tire for a spare?
