265 70 17 or 275 70 17??

I have a ~2" lift and 275 KO2's. When these need to be replaced I'm going to downsize to 265s again. I rubbed a decent amount on the fender liner and even edge of the bumper--enough that pushing forward the liner didn't work well enough so I trimmed it. Surprisingly though I did not need a BMC. Sometimes I think it looks great with the 275s and other times I think it looks like they take up so much of the wheel well that it looks like it's stock ride height still. 265's would let me have no worries or headache and they still look great with the smaller lift I've got IMO
Edit: Also forgot I can't fit a 275 KO2 in the stock spare location which means it either has to ride on the roof or in the rear hatch area. Or I have to spend even more money on something like a Wilco

Thanks for this. My last two sets (since 2005) have been BFG KO's 265/70's.
Whenever I'm thinking of upsizing, reality always intervenes.
I have a Shrockworks front bumper so I don't anticipate rubbing there w/275's, but on stock wheels I'm thinking they'll be really close to UCA/ball joint even though I've upgrades to Icon tubes.
Not fitting underneath is where I draw the line, though. Between that and the lack of C load range seems like it will be a deal killer for me and I may go with the 265's again.

Could you take a side picture to get a better picture of the wheel wells? Ive got a black 4runner too
Im currently on a 2" level and have the stock 265 65 17. I ve been back and forth about upgrading to 265 70 17, but the look doesnt seem that much more impressive with just a 1 inch tire.
Im thinking about going all the way to a 3" lift by adding new coils/ springs to accomodate 275 70 17s.

Welcome to the black 4Runner club, lol. I went through the same dilemma last year when I was in need of tires, but also really wanted new wheels as well. I spent months reading every thread on the subject, weighing all the pros and cons, as well as being honest with myself about what I really wanted, and how I planned to actually use the truck. In the end, it took rolling out an actual 265/70/17 Wildpeak tire and putting it next to my still mounted 265/65/17 Toyos to convince me that there is actually a big difference in size between the 2 tires, and given all of the negative issues with going any larger, I was sold. What really got the “look” I was after though, was changing the offset of the wheels from the +30mm of the stock ones to +1mm on my new Fuel wheels. The combination gave me the aggressive stance I was after, and the tires are perfectly scaled (inmo) for my mild lift. Because of the extra offset, I did have to remove the front mudflaps, relocate the wheel well liner a bit forward, and do some minor trimming on a plastic edge of wheel well trim that hit in certain situations. I now have zero rubbing, and I’m super happy with the appearance and performance of the new setup. My best advice if your questioning whether the tires will be a big enough difference, is to do what I did, and visit a local tire store that stocks the sizes your interested in, put them next to yours, and compare. Looking at numerical dimensions is really not the same as seeing it in person from what I discovered.

Thanks everyone. I have seen some of the 265 70 17 in person - they just look a little thicker/ beefier to me without significant change in the view.
I add like to add trail edition wheels, which would give me a little more of a wide stance, and maybe that would help with how it looks, even with the 1 inch bigger tires.
I like the idea of the 255/75/17, but so far there seems to be a lack of available tires in that area.

Sure thing--sorry for the delay, just saw this. I actually have a Shadow Mica so it's a metallic dark grey, but here it is from the side. It's in pictures that I think the tires look too large--in person I still have a ~5" gap between tire and top of fender in the front, but it doesn't look anything like it in pics

I'm thinking of picking up a set of the newer TRD Trail/Off-road wheels too, to move my tires a bit further from the suspension. I clear the UCAs fine, but there's that one vertical part ((knuckle??) that has that peak in it and I can't even fit my finger between it and the tire.
