265/70-17 = Suspension Problems???

My stats:

2005 V8 Sport Edition.
41,XXX miles.
Upsized to 265/70-17 BFG A/Ts
No Mods / Lifts

My Problem:

I have only had the tires on approx. 10,000 miles. After about 5,000 miles, a VERY obvious intermittent high-pitched squeek developed from the front passenger wheel area. Dealer diagnosed as the shock rod rubbing against the strut brace. Problem solved, for about 3,000 miles. The same sound has now returned.

Has anybody else had the same thing happen? Does anyone know of this happenning to anyone else? I cannot imagine such a small overall increase in the diameter of the tire woudl cause this, but I am beginning to wonder.

Any expertise would be greatly appreciated!!!

I don't quite understand the terms in the diagnosis they gave you... It's hard to speculate.

I am no mechanic, but it had something to do with the strut moving around within its mounting area. Grinding against the opening and making it larger.

Sorry - but I cannot be more specific than that.

When you say you upsized to 265/70/17... Upsized from what? My stock tires on my '08 SPort are 265/65/17 and the 70's are only about 1" in diameter taller which only adds about 1/2" more height than stock. Based on my GPS reading the 70's would make my speedometer more accurate but that's about it. It should have NO impact on the suspension.

My '00 came with 265/70/16's and I upsized to 265/75/17's and it brought the odometer dead-on, too.

Yes - from a 65-series to a 70-series. I agree - it should not have any impact on the suspension. That is why I ask - did anyone else experience this?
