265/70/17 Tire question

I hate to do this, as I feel like the answer to this question is staring me right in the face, although I have searched but have not gotten the answer I'm looking for.

I have 265/70/17 Load C Duratracs on my truck. What PSI should I have them filled to? I am getting mixed answers on whether the PSI should increase from stock because of the LT tire and slightly larger size. I have them at 35 right now, but I feel like it should be higher. What PSI will wear the tires down evenly and have good MPGs at the same time?

I am not the expert, but I have heard and read somewhere that the LT's should be run at a higher pressure than what is recommended for P rated tires in the same size. If I remember correctly, I think it recommended about 6 or 7 psi more, which would be around 38-39 psi. Others have recommended to do a roll test with chalk to check the contact.

There's no single right answer to the question of how much pressure because all answers rely on a reference point. With the criteria you mentioned I'd suggest about 40 psi.

It's mostly a matter of how much ride harshness you're willing to have. You could start at 45psi and adjust down as necessary for ride characteristics.

Higher pressure equals better mileage but the returns diminish the higher you go. The best way to judge wear is rotate and pay attention to wear over time. Pressure that is higher than "perfect" will have much less effect on irregular wear than pressure that is too low. You could do a chalk test if it makes you feel better but only time will tell the real wear story.
