So if your 4Runner has 17 inch rims OEM then it probably has the larger brakes/calipers - so its a mute point because the 16 inch rims won't even fit. Why would you pick a tire size not having the rims already? I guess if you had 16" rims on your yota and someone store them -- it might be an issue but .........

Are we talking 3rd gen or 4th gen?
If 3rd gen IMO the 265/75-16 would be better (that's what I had on my '00). To me it just looks better then 17's on a 3rd gen.
If 4th gen then IMO the 17" plus size in 265/70-17 would be better, 16's just look too small IMO on a 4th gen. Alternatively, I'd go with 265/65-18 (instead of stock size 265/60-18) if you have the newer 18" Ltd wheels which is what I put on my GX.

I was specifically referring to 4th gen, but its interesting to see what people think about 3rd gens as well.
One of the reasons I was asking was I just bought a used 07 SR5 that has 16s and stock tires (265/70/16). I was debating moving to 17s as I was thinking it looked better on the current 4runner. But I was looking for others with 16s to see if I would change my mind. The 16s have more tire options, but thats not that big of a deal.
Either way I am going to upgrade the tires (and move to a larger size) as the stockers aren't too great.
