265 series vs 255 series

I've been searching but cannot find the answer I'm looking for. I'm about positive I want to run the 265 but noticed that some run with a 255. Just wanted to get some reasons why. I've got the Daystar lift and 1.25 spacers so I'm ready, just want to be sure I've got the right size and have thought out all the possibilities.

Also, buddy of mine has a bone stock 4Runner. Loved the way the spacers moved out the tires, can he do this without lifting? I'm afraid on compression he would hit the fender.

Thanks and sorry for the inept search skills. Damn, I don't even have bowstaff skills... :crybaby:

I have a Daystar lift, spidertrax spacers, and 265/70/17 BFG AT KO, and my tires rub the mudflaps at 3/4 lock. the 255/70/17 will allow you to run a more agressive tire like BFG M/T's with no rubbing issues.

Depending on the side wall aspect ratio, most of the guys that run 255s have 32" tall tires.

A 265/65R17 is 30.6" give or take. A 255/75R17 is 32.1" give or take.

Wow.

I just picked up some factory FJ wheels with 265/70/17 BFG AT KOs on them (smokin' deal at $350) and threw them on my stock '08 SR5.... and I get mud flap rubbing at 3/4 lock.

Just now, I was shopping for a Daystar lift thinking that would cure the problem, but it obviously won't.

Mudflap or the fender liner at the front of the wheel well? Just curious, thanks.

Both.

Only at about 3/4 lock though. Turn past and it goes away. Sorta hard to tell exactly what is going on, but what is that saying? Plastic rubbing cures itself? =)

my winter/summer tires are 265/70/17, the winter tires on the wifes rubicon are 255/75/17 bfg. they are about 1" + taller sitting side by side on the garage floor.( not mounted on a vehicle )
