275/40/20 on an 04 Sport 2WD

Anyone know if 275/40/20 tires will work ok on my 04 2WD Sport? I am getting 20" rims and tires as a gift froma client in that size but i don't know if they will fit.

Anyone have this configuration? I dont't really know what all the numbers mean.

That tire size is a bit small for your application. It will fit but will lower your ride height. If you want something a little closer, go with a 275/45/20 ( even this is a little off, about 4%) or with a 265/50/20 which is damn near the closest you'll get. Remember, you drive a truck not a sports car. You don't want to put too much of a low profile tire on.

You don't want to go with a 40 or 45 series unless you want to figure out what you speedo is really reading and can remember that all of the time. Like Noloc said go with the 265/50/20 or you can even go with a 275/55/20 which are both a Plus 3 fitment and your speedo will be a lot more accurate then a 40 or 45 series.
The 20 obviously means the rim size. The 275 is the actual width of the tire in mm and the 40 is the height of the tire in relation to the width of the tire.

Will this lower my ride height from my stock 265/65/17's

YES approximately an inch. Find the tire size calculator to see just how much. I'm getting a set of 20" tires in the Spring but I'm going with a 265/50/20

Unfortunately I don't really have a choice in the matter considering the rims and tires are free. (which i am not complaining about)

If i don't like them I'll just sell them on ebay.

How much difference can an inch make? Anyone out there have aconfiguration like i mentioned? Is there a noticeable difference of the car being lower by an inch?
