275/70 on a 3rd gen

I was at discount tire co yesterday and one of the guys told me I could fit 275/70/16s on my stock 3rd gen SR5. I was wondering if this was really possible and if anyone has tried it. I've only heard of people going up to 265/75s. I'm not even sure it's possible to fit a 275 on the wheel.

I was looking at the BFG AT KO's specifically, if that makes a difference.

For 3rd gen 4runners, the two upsizings (without a lift) are:

265/75/16 or 275/70/16.

The 275-tires will be wider but won't add as much ground clearance as 265/75-tires.

Both will fit with no problems.

Are there any advantages to getting the 275/70s?

The width is wider than 265-tires. Maybe more tire selection?? You will probably have less drag on your engine with the 275-tires because it's not as tall as the 265/75 tires.

When i had 265/75 tires, I FELT it when i accelerated...slower than stock size. 275-tires would be in between stock and what i experienced.

The extra width doesn't lead to more traction with the wider footprint or any of that stuff? I guess I'm just looking for a reason to get the 275's cause I like the wide look but I know that the extra half inch on the 265/70s would be more practical in offroading situations.

Do they make 275/75R16? If so, Who makes mud tires in that size? I want to put agressive tires when my RT/S wears out. I want something meatier than a All Terrain tires.

Thanks

- Manuel
