285/60/18 discussion

I read some 4 year post with people running 285/60's on aftermarket 18's with no lift/spacing. We all know there are tons of threads about 275's, 17's, 65 and 70 sidewall, but no current threads and no pics on 285/60's on 18's, especially on stock wheels (which I love). I don't off road and I do a lot of long highway trips. when the time comes, I will buy Highway All Season tires. I just want to know:

1) How wide the stock 18's are so I can determine if 285's are safe to run on them?
2) If it is safe, will it rub and where and how much on stock setup?
3) If it will rub, What is the minimum lift wheel spacer combo I need to not rub?
4) Any pics?

I am assuming width is 7.5 or 8, but I need a definite answer.
My goal here is when I buy new tires, I want more beef and I want to keep messing with the Suspension Geometry to a minimum with the spacers.

After getting much more beef, I'm about to do the reverse, I'm purchasing a set of Michelin M/S-2's for the 18's I aquired. Keeping my current setup for winter & offroad. Long road trips are best with the stock tires which is why I'm buying what I am.

As for your questions, it depends on the tire you plan to run. When looking at tires the spec sheet for each should define the needs of the wheel width, and also define the exact tire width & diameter of the tire itself. Each tire will be different with different tread depths. When you know this you can compare using a tire calculator to match the sizes others are using. You are using an 18'' wheel but the max tire sizes have been explicitly defined all over the site in relation to lift & spacer needs, just not for your exact setup you are looking for.

sell your urban rims and tires and get some new ones. your t4r will look so much better with either chrome or black rims. the smoked ones that come with the urb are just kinda odd. i have a 08 urb with black rims and nitto terra grapplers right now. looks pretty sharp all blacked out. just my opinion. to each their own right?

Stock 4Runner 18" wheels are 7.5" wide.

That is a big tire to run without a lift it will likely rub the uca's and the other usual spots on the bumper/fender with stock wheels. Its not so much the increased diameter, but the increase in both width and height with that size.

Im not a fan of wheel spacers, but a set of 1.25" Spidertraxx would clear up any rubbing on the inside. I would say a 1/2" - 1" body lift would provide the clearance you need. on the outer edges and allow for room when the suspension compresses.

It is 7.5" wide with a +20 or +25mm offset. If you look on the inside of the wheel you will see numbers stamped on inside of one of the spokes. it should read something like 18 x 7.5 25 jj

I am looking into toyo open country a/t's for my limited. Probably gonna go 285 60 18, i wish there were more pics of stock 18's with bigger tires.

my rig's only at 25k so far, so I still have about that much to go on stocks.

If I was to get tires today, I'd prolly get 275/60/18 General Grabber HTS Highway All Season's

I was browsing the threads but could not find the answer - will 275/60/18" tires fit stock 18" rims without rubbing? (no lifting and no spacers are installed)..
to the best of my knowledge 285/60/18 will not fit..
