285/60/17 on stock rollers?

i assume there is going to be possible rubbing if this combination goes. however, the question is where does it rub ?

the fender well ?

(if you look at tire, would it rub at its 3 and 9 o'clock positions on the inside?)

when would it rub? going through dips? just turning ?

oh yeah... will this size tire as a spare, get in the way of xreas or anything down there?

i have a magnaflow exhaust.

I do not know if it will rub. I am one of a very select few that has decided that running more performance oriented tires on the rig is a good idea.

I run 275/60/17's with no rubbing but I have no idea if it would rub with a 285. If it was going to rub, you would get it with higher loads/bumps/high steering inputs.

Not sure if a 285/60/17 exists. I dunno.

I do know that 285/70/17 will rub on stock and expect lots of tearing. Trying to fit 33" tires on a stock 4runner is just suicide. With 3" of lift, it still requires extensive trimming.

275.70.17 is pretty much the max you want to go w/ the traditional lift (basically any kind of lift type) to avoid any rubbing.
265.70.17 is pretty much the max w/ stock (no lift).

ie 285 60 17 instead of 265 65 17...

SR5 grade 16" + wheel diameter :: 16 x 8, 0 offset, 4.5 backspacing recommended 6x5.5 lugs
Sports/Limited grade 17" + wheel diameter (limitation due to brakes!)

265/75/16 or 265/70/17 :: slight rubbing possibly (No lift required, stock wheel)
275/70/17 :: No rubbing (requires basic lift - 2.5" ~ 3" suspension lift, stock wheel or aftermarket wheel)
285/75/16 or 285/70/17 :: lots of rubbing - trim affected areas (requires basic lift - 2.5" ~ 3" suspension lift, aftermarket wheel) If you want to add a body lift 1.25" ~ 1.5" This will greatly reduce the rubbing related issues but will not completely resolve the problem
315/75/16 :: time to cut like crazy!

These figures are based on MT rated tires. Tires will greatly impact the rubbing as tire specifications varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Keep in mind that the wheel specification (offset / backspacing) will greatly impact the final oucome as well. Other options:
285/40/22 :: no lift

Lance, can you fit a 285/70-17 on a stock wheel, 3" lift, 1.5 BL ?? Im getting yes you can, and no you cant, lol
Im not scared to trim or cut the bumper, not at all, will it clear the upper a-arm ?

I know it's a bit off topic but what about some OE 18's? The 265/70/18 is readily avail as is a 275/70/18. If you resisted the temptation to use wheel spacers you could probably run the 265's w/only minimal trimming and the 275's w/some light UCA rubbing... Just a thought.
