285/70/17 rubbing issues?

Hey Guys for x-mas I was thankfully blessed with a present to myself.

2008 4runner Sport 4wd

Next week I am putting a Stage 2 Icon system with 2.5 remote resi in the rear.

Question is I want to use the stock 17" sport wheel and do Goodyear Duratracs 285/70/17, Can someone chime in and tell me if I will get rubbing issues anywhere?

Tire shop I went to said I will definitely get rubbing..... maybe trying to sell me wheels too......

You will rub for sure, no getting around it. Have to do a lot of trimming, the body mount chop as well. Also most likely have to run spacers on the stock wheels to keep from rubbing on the shocks and sway bar. So yes, lots of rubbing.

i may be in the minority on this but I like to do whatever I can to avoid hacking wherever possible. As an alternative to hacking the body mount, a set of adjustable upper control arms would allow a technician to position your front wheels far enough forward (maximize caster) to avoid running. This is what I have with a relatively tame offset set of wheels -FJ steelies.

My 4Runner was barely drivable when I first installed the 285's, but I cranked up the front coil-overs (about another 3/4"-1") and got an alignment which helped tremendously. My caster is currently at 3.4* driver and 2.7* passenger. I only rub on the passenger side in reverse at full right turn, but plan to have another alignment done asking them to maximize the caster angle or least see if they can get me to 3.4* on the passenger side. I hate asymmetry!

You will need wheel spacers with the OEM wheels to clear the UCA's.

Stage 2 Comes with the Icon Upper Control Arms right? That should allow you to clear the 285's from rubbing against the UCA, but if you're running a factory front end (i.e. no aftermarket bumper like Demello, Shrockworks, ect.) you may need to trim some fenders and such to avoid rubbing as well as have a shop dial in the caster to 4° or more.

3" lift and 1.5" body lift and I still rub with the wheel turned in reverse. I've also tried wheel spacers, but that only made the tires rub on the wheel wells. I don't know that there is a way around it without heavy trimming.

That said, I love my Terra Grapplers and don't regret moving up in size at all.
