I just called Discount Tire to check prices on BFG KO's and they told me that they only make them in Load Range E now. Is this true?
285/75/R16 BFG Load Range E Only?

Yeah now they are telling me that the Toyo MT's only come in load range E as well... WTF?!!
Im looking for an AT or MT in 285/75/16 Load Range D.
My top choices are:
Toyo MT
BFG KO AT
Nitto Terra Grappler
Toyo AT

Ok after doing some research, a lot of the 285 tires come only in load range E. Are most you guys actually running load range E?!!#
I ran 315's on my last truck, load range D ... MTR's.. how the hell is it so hard to find 285's !?!?

I have 285 Treadwrights in a D. My dad has 285 Terra Grapplers in a D. I think they usually only stock 285s in a E because that is a common size for one ton trucks. They show on Discount Tire's website 285s in a D range. They might just have to order them in.

are you sure they are not quoting you for the 17" rim, i know most newer 3/4 and 1ton trucks use that as a common tire size and yeah they will be a E rate tire. they should make a 16" version in a D rating.
and why on earth do you want the Toyo MTs? they are such a heavy tire, and unless you plan of racing hardcore and abusing your tires then they are pointless, i have friends who have them on their rigs and i can go more places than them and they all hate how heavy the tires are they will kill you mpg even in a D rating

Ok I'm getting the BFG KO AT in load range D. They finally found me a set. I dont know what the hell the holdup was.
Now I'm going to get slapped for this, but do I need wheel spacers? I am going to run them on my FZJ80 rims.... ?

80 series rims have a little less backspacing than stock rims on 4runners, also wider. So you should be just fine.
I would love my next set of tires to be C or D load rating my current KM2s are E and they ride a little on the harsh side. Unfortunatly thats all available in 265s.
I was also looking at Toyos specs and they make a MT in 285/70 so (32x11) and thats available in a C load range. Their just so damn heavy!

Glad you found some D range tires because E range was too harsh of a ride for me. I can't believe anyone would like that stiff of a tire for our 4runners.

LT285/75R16D1 122R W are available in New Mexico at most 2-3 days for availability.
I know the Discount Tires stores will check out of state availability and have tires and wheels shipped in here.
That's how I got my wheels. The local store here had a store in Phoenix ship them to Albuquerque.
Tell them to get off their lazy A$$es and check the other stores for the D weight.

I've got 285/75/16 D on my F250 and I would say they are even a bit heavy for the 4runners. The C's would be best but I have D's on my 4runner and it does fine. The 285/75/16 E is super common on the bigger trucks now and so is the 265 so I would say the tire shops would have to order them in because I've noticed all the major brands still make those sizes in range D and in a number of different tires.

I have 285/75/16 - E weight Revo 2s on my Runner and still get 17 - 20 MPG depending on city or highway driving.
I also just put 265/75/16 -E weight Revo 2s on my wife's 2WD Tacoma Pre-Runner. The E weight are not any harsher than the 275/70/16 - C weight LT M/S Michelin's that they replaced. The ride is actually much nicer and the control with the E weight is superior over C weight tires.
My wife likes the heavier E weight than the lighter C weight tires for control and the ride.... She says it feels like driving a brand new truck. :biggrin2:
On both our Toyotas we have had C weight stock and after market tires they felt sloppy as far as control goes. I prefer the heavier D or E weight for the control. If they ride too harsh you may be inflating them too high.
For my 285's I run 39psi in the fronts and 37psi in the rear for daily driving. For my wife's 265's I run 38psi in the front and 36psi in the rears.
