Are you guy's who are running 285/75/16's able to get that sized tire up under your truck in the stock spare position?

i have the oem hitch and my 285 is aired down to about 12psi just to fit. It was hitting the panhard bar when i was fully inflated. i have a compressor in the truck if/when i need to air it up for use.

I should have mentioned that I have an aftermarket hitch insalled, not OEM....hmm... now I'm going to check how close it gets to the panhard bar, but I'm almost positive that mine doesn't rub..
 
I would try to mount it then crawl underneath and see if you might hit something and remember to pay attention to parts that could rub on the tire or if the tire limits any movement.
 
I have an aftermarket hitch installed as well, and recently put on 265/70/17 rims and tires on. The full-size spare JUST fits under the rear with the hitch in place, and there is no way I could get another millimeter without releasing tire pressure and really squeezing it up under there. Even then, I don't think I'd do that and would find a different solution.
 
I have a 265/75 under the truck and it still has a few milimeters to spare and under flex it touches nothing but I can't imagine squeezing anything bigger underneath. I'll post pics soon.
 
I would like to get a set of 285s but I also want to be able to get a full sized spare underneath. I guess anything would fit if it was aired down. I also have a compressor in my truck which would make it easy to inflate.

Man... upgrading can be a hassle :crybaby:

what would be wrong with having a 31 as a spare? if you don;t wheel to hard i'm sure having a spare a little smaller would be fine till you got to a repair shop, just a thought, personally i do like full size spares as well...
 
If you are going to have a spare of a different size then (whether its smaller or larger) it needs to be mounted on the front axle. Which means if you have a flat on the rear then move a front tire to the rear and put the spare of a different size on the front.
 
Gotta bring this issue back up...I've been running 285/75/16's for a while now and I just got a full size spare. There is no way that thing is gonna fit underneath, at least at full pressure. The 265/70 that was under there has clearance on the sides, but pretty much touches the hitch. Not real sure how to mount a fully inflated 285 underneath, maybe weld a bracket on there to hold it?
 
dam i get my stock sized spare to rub on the panhard at full pressure how do you guys fit bigger under their. i do have the oem tow hitch
 
For what it's worth - It's been two years but I finally got a 285 spare yesterday. It's a used toyo open country with about 3/4 - 1/2 tread life on it. It's aired down to about 20psi and fits, but it's real tight as you can see from the photos. I have it on an angle. There is a little rubbing on the panhard bar although I think that is from when I tried to get the spare up in there. Doesn't seem to cause any major issue rubbing.
