285 Tire Size Owners... your input please!

I posted his in suspension/wheels but I know not everyone roams the forums. Maybe I'm able to get a quicker, more accurate response here. Moderators, I apologize if I'm at fault, feel free to delete if I'm in violation.

With my 07 SR5 v6, I ran FJ Bilsteins/Springs with a day star 2.5/1.5 spacer and was able to run my 285/70/17 duratracs with wheel spacers to clear the UCA's.

I'm replicating that setup now on my 03 Limited v6, and got a set of FJ springs and rear daystar spacers from an fj buddy who upgraded his susp. After reading thru the forums, I'm wanting to just get a new set of 5100's and adjust the heights. My question is, and correct me if I'm wrong, to achieve the same result, I need to adjust the fronts to 2.5 and rears 1.75 with rear spacer....add a wheel spacer and should clear 285's.

Again this setup is new to me as I've never owned a set of adjustable 5100s. Wanting to get all my ducks in a row before starting the lift.

Thanks!

Just out of curiosity what type of driving do you do with this truck? Just city cruising/daily transportation or does this thing also see some off-road as well?

Sometimes the adjustment for the shock perch doesn't always equate exactly with what it was estimated to raise the truck. Sometimes you will see some variations based on the spring that was used as well due to different spring rates and loading characteristics.

I got much higher than what was originally described coming off OEM springs.

Note that you can adjust the height with the fronts using the perch, but the rears you can keep using spacers or preferably do it using new springs and benefit from a better ride in the process.

As far as clearing 285s, can't help you there.

I run 285's and yeah with the set up your referring to you can (stuff) 285's in there no problem ...just don't turn your steering wheel and don't hit any bumps.

Unless your prepared to do some cutting, trimming and pounding ...

Get yourself some icon or all pro 3" rear lift springs and a set of front coils that will provide 2" of lift then pair them with the 5100's and on the front just go up one perch and that will give you a 3" lift all around with great ride quality and provides the correct amount of clearance for 285's .

This one will be my weekend driver and off-road. I have 2 other vehicles to daily.

With the stock FJ springs all I had to cut was the lower end of the front bumper and remove the flaps. How are the stock FJ bilsteins in size compared to the 5100's? I ask because there was no big issue running those w/ 285s

I'm going to have 5100's for sale soon. They've been on my truck for about 2k miles. Have 5th gen springs on the front and toytec 2" springs in the rear. Gives the same lift as the fj swap

Send me a PM when you do. I'm not sure if I'll go the 5100 route, or the stock FJ Trail Bilstein and replicate exactly what I did last time.

Thanks!

If that is the case, I would completely pass over the way you intend on doing it and just ditch the spacers all together.

For an off-road truck, there is so much more improvement to be had over a spacer/FJ spring setup.

With 285s, the biggest factors to running the larger size is your alignment and your wheel offset.

Ideally, you want to be able to fit the tires with no lift (as under flex, you realistically have no lift as the suspension cycles) Suspension lift will help, but only cutting/grinding allows 100% clearance. Bodylift can substitute somewhat for some cutting

Spacers allow clearing the suspension components, but also can increase rubbing. Ideally you want to run the smallest offset needed
