Hey everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade my tires finally to 285's. I've broken down to two brands I've been interested in. Would love your opinion...

1. Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT 285/70/17 - I found on the trail 4runner site that these are great all around tires and produce the best on-road manners in terms of sound and control

2. Falken Wildpeak AT3W 285/70/17 - These are less expensive which is the selling point for me to consider. I did have a friend install them on his F150 and he said they're wicked loud on the highway. Anybody else have this issue?

I have the black 17" TRD wheels, and have been very happy with them so far. I
installed some spidertrax on all four tires to give the truck a more aggressive stance. Only concern there is I've noticed a bit of rubbing. I'll fix that soon.

If there are any other options I should consider, let me know. Looking to purchase early summer or when there's a good deal in place.

I have 265 Wildpeaks and don't find them noisy really, proper inflation/wear should keep the noise down.

Watch what shop you use, 285s suggest 7.5+ inch wide wheels. I believe the TRD wheels are only 7
 
A lot of comments with the Falken owners state that the tires are quiet. I am going to buying them soon for my trd. A lot of great reviews and great price.
 
Tag as I'm ordering in the next 48 hours.

The 55lb E load AT3-XLT's is leading my list.

Full disclosure I ran them for 30k miles on my F150 and loved them.
 
I had Cooper LT 265's on mine, still had 8-9/32 tread left after 45,000 miles. They were great. However, they were starting to lose a bit of traction in the wet, and the were starting to make a little noise. They were completely quiet up to 40k to me.

I would buy again, except that I like trying new tires.

Thank you for the advice, I will have to stay with 275's for now. I believe the Coopers are going to be my top choice.

I don't own them. I was considering them. Here are some members opinions of them.

Falken Wildpeak AT3/w Road Noise

I suspect that like everything else, noise is subjective. Some claim they are noisy, others don't. YMMV.

Was that for me?

Its a TRD so its adding to the OEM "lift" and I've been assured by many clearing 285's will not be an issue.

Going on 17x7.5 FJ steelies.

ETA: What PSI are folks running on thier E load tires (275 or 285)? Seems 38-40psi is popular.
 
I just put lt285 load c at3w on trd rims to replace 265 load c ko2. They are quieter than the ko2s. I have an ORP with pro fox shocks. I had to push the fender linerd forward, trd pro bumper trim, and massage the front mudflaps with a heat gun. If you intend to run spacers as well, you may rub the body mount. I love the tires so far, on and off road. Only issue is weight as they are 62lbs each, you definitely feel them with acceleration.

I'm running my 285 Wildpeak M/Ts at 36-37psi.

Also for the OP, when I had my Wildpeak AT3Ws (E), I can't say they were loud on the highway. Had them for about 20k miles before changing them out for the M/T. They were still at 15/32 (17 to start) and had about 1500 miles of offroad travel on them.

I have the 285 KO2's. I would have gotten the Wildpeaks but they weighed about 7 lbs heavier each. I have never figured out why a Wildpeak C-load is so much heavier than the KO2 C-load. In fact the C load and E load Wildpeak's weigh about the same. That doesn't make any sense.

I run them at 42 PSI.

No sorry that was for OP.

Also I keep my E's at about 34 to 36. 40+ is harsh to me.
 
I bought some falken wild peaks in 275 flavor about a 2 weeks ago. One of the main reason I chose these over ko2’s or any other is because they are c rated and wanted to keep the same ride as the stock tires. Do have some rubbing on the front mud flap, Bilstein 5100’s on the way. Also, only have about 1k or less miles on then but I haven’t got any additional noise on the road

Yea all of Falkens tire weights seem odd, especially the C vs E load weights. Why are they heavier than the Ko2s? Not sure really but I remember reading somewhere that the steel they used in the belt was cheaper and heavier than the type the Ko2s use. I was concerned about the weights but got a deal I couldn't say no to lol. 64lb tires ...yeap lol
