295/70/17 Nitto's

I see a lot of 285's out there, but I'm really wanting to go to the 295 Nitto. I've got a stage two Icon on order for my 14 trail and would like to hear from anyone running the 295 for pros/cons and fitment issues.

i have a stage II set up and my 285 nittos are just good enough to avoid a body mount chop. With the 295's you might have to chop it a bit, but it should be no problem at all to the integrity of the vehicle and will look good. There are quite a few guys around here running 295's

I have 295 trail grapplers on a 17x8.5 -6mm offset, spidertrax spacers and icon uniball UCA's. You for sure need a body mount chop and a ton of trimming (even with an aftermarket bumper). I almost don't have any trim left and I still rub a little tiny bit while reversing and turning to the left.

These have about 30% tread left, I love them, but I might try out the 285/75/17s next.

Anyone go with 305/65/17 without the Spidertrax? Kind of a shorter but wider alternative. I'm currently running 285/70/17 on 8 inch 0 offset rims with 1 1/4" Spidertrax. Required small body mount chop and some fender liner trimming but now, no rubbing at all. Was thinking of going with 17 x 9, -6 or -12mm offset with the 305/65 and theoretically should fit but wanted some real life advice.

Well, I'm not as sure about the 295's after your post Andrew, but I'm glad to get you let me know how they are for you. I was planning to run the stock Trail wheels for the time being and was ready for the body mount chop, but not sure about massive trimming and still having it rub. I do wonder if the 4.5 backspacing against the 6 would make a big difference.

Any input from other folks that have run these or any of the tire gurus?

Thanks, I just don't want to make a large $$$$ mistake!

It really depends on wheels (width and offset) and the tire itself. Nitto offers the Terra Grappler and Trail Grappler in that size, but the Trail Grappler is taller at nearly 33.5" and with the squared shoulder will rub more than likely. On the other hand, Tedstryker had 295/70R17s Terra's mounted on his 4Runner (2" front spacer lift, stock wheels with spacers) and apparently only required minor trimming to deal with the rubbing.

Edit: Found a better link (see below)

Let us know what you decide and post up pics once you do!

Proquip, Thanks for the info and link! Nice to see it on a vehicle. I thought the Terra Grapplers ran smaller from my FJ cruiser mod days, but I wanted to make sure my memory was not too bad.

Maybe it’s too late?

Hey guys I’m new in this forum m, I have a 2017 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road w/o KDSS. I just purchased 4 Cooper Tires 295/70R17 and a 3” Spacers/Shock absorber lift.

Now I’m reading there are some fitting issues on 295’s. What would it be required to eliminate the rub??

Thank you for your assistance.

There are easily 50 threads on this topic, I would start with a search!

Read the thread you just posted on and you will get an idea...

You will definitely need to do some trimming of the plastic, mudflap removal/modification, and likely a body mount chop...Good luck.

Have the 285/70s on my +4mm Pro wheels now, swapping to 295/70 next week on a set of 17x9 -12mm wheels.

Don't plan on doing a BMC, we'll see how that goes.

Hi mate,

I see that you have already mounted the new wheels and tires. Any update on fitment with those 295's? BMC? Thanks

Im seriously considering 295/70/17 or 305/70/17's as my next tire size. I currently have 285/70/R17' Toyo Open Country R/T's and the right side does rub the body mount on reverse. Bottom line in my experience, if you are going beyond a 285/70, you will need to chop the body mount. Embrace the horror..

Been a little busy since I put them on so I haven't been able to properly address the rubbing. Haven't raised it any further yet so still ~1/2'' of lift in the front and ~3/8" lift in the rear.

Rubs the front bumper and body mount. Front bumper just needs a slight trim and the and body mount will need to see the tax man. I could probably skip the BMC with the extra 1/2'' of lift that I am doing in the front but it would still rub under compression.

Can really feel the weight difference from the 285 to 295 jump. This is as far as I'd go without a re-gear.

I run 295 Toyos (I know, kinda different) on 17x8 Countersteer X wheels with 1.25 spacers. I rub only on full turns on-road, but rub alot more off-road on the front bumper AND the plastic wheel well trim near the body mount. that mount has been chopped, by the way.

I just need a few mins with a dremel and my rubbing, for the most part, will go bye-bye.

3" lift, 17x8 wheel with 4.5" BS and 0 offset. 295/70/17 Ridge Grappler which runs big in the 295 family. Moved the inner fender forward and trimmed the front bumper. No BMC needed, no rubbing, very happy.

My lift is only 1.5 plus 1 inch stock height in the front and 1 inch in the rear. Based on what I am seeing and reading, I will definitely need a BMC and trim more on the bumper to fit 295s. For now, I am happy with my new 285 KO2s haha.

Thanks for the answers bud! I think I will stick with the 285s game for now haha.
