2nd Gen Cup Holders

Would you be open to me finding the console and plastic hump pieces at a wrecking yard and shipping it? Or does it absolutely need to be installed in the vehicle? Got a yard nearby with some prospective vehicles equipped accordingly

I think the black hump piece thing is attached to the shifter assembly. I'm pretty sure it all needs to be connected to the shifter to stay lined up for test fitting. Maybe I'm wrong. I have not torn apart the interior of a 2nd Gen. The last time I owned a 2nd Gen was the late 90's while going to college.

Alrighty well you very well may be right but I'll tell you what: if I don't hear of your success in your own attempts by the time I can jam to a junkyard and confirm I'll let you know. It's looking like maybe Saturday I'll have a chance to check it out. I feel confident that method will work

Sorry guys kinda new to forums, bhicks has my console for the fitting and I would be happy to help with the test fitting except I am in New Mexico. Hoping to help with the fitting in any way possible. Happy to take any measurements needed

Thanks for loaning me that console. I have taken this project to about 90% done because of the measurements I pulled from your console. It fits perfect on the console now and snould be super close to fitting around the black shifter bezel hump. I have a feeling the design I have now is going to be super close if not perfect. I just need to see it installed to verify.

If it's any consolation I'm in no rush for it and honestly excited to be, even in a tiny way, a part of the development, just sad you're having so much trouble finding a local fit rig.

Update-I am in full blown hunt mode for someone in your area bhicks. Have already had two responses within an hour or so of you, this is gonna happen.

Bhicks- I have a guy in Tustin who's willing to let you have your way with a 1990 4wd auto. If that could work I can get it going.

I'm heading out to Huntington Beach to pick up a car for my wife right now. I will be going right through Tustin. Have your buddy call me. I can meet him on my way out or on my way back. Probably be around 2:30 on the way out or 5:00pm on the way back. (9O9) 2three8-3333

Well... your buddy doesn't need to call me. I was just pumping gas getting ready to head out to Huntington Beach and a 2nd gen 4 wheel drive Auto pulled up right next to me. I walked over to the guy and told him the project I was working on. He seemed happy and excited about it. Gave me access to his car for about five minutes. I got all the pictures and dimensions I needed. Fitment was 99% perfect I just need to make a couple tiny little tweaks. Going to make those today. I will have pictures of this prototype installed this evening when I get back. The good news is that he is local. He gave me his address and phone number. I now have access to it for final fitment of the final design. Should be within the next couple days.

Sounds good, hope to have my new cup-holder(s) soon:banana: (4wheel-auto)

So here is a pic of prototype 3.0 installed. Please understand that I print my prototype in thick layers at high speed. I don't make them to look pretty. I make them for fitment purposes only. The final version will be done with much thinner layers and slower speeds for a smoother look. I already made the needed changes and have version 4.0 already printing. I forgot to mention; this 2nd gen is the true definition of a POS. It is on the rough side of beat to hell.

So I got version 5.0 test fit today. It fit onto the console perfectly and had zero clearance or interference issues. My only issue was when I went to actually stick it on the the strips of 3M adhesive and then screw it on with the 3 self tapers. I realized that my angles for the screw holes could be improved upon for increased stability. I decided to make some subtle changes to how the screws go in. I already made those changes and got the final version printing. Version 5.0 does work and fit great but it had more movement than I would like. 6.0 should be very stable. Here is what 5.0 looks like installed.

Wanna sell one of the prototypes or can you recycle them into new stuff?
No clue about 3d printers other than it is frigging Cool technology
