2nd Gen spare tire question

Hi,

I've been looking at a bunch of Hilux Surf's here in Canada. The problem is that almost all the manual ones I see have the spare tire mounted on the tailgate. That is something I actually really hate and is what's keeping me from checking them out. However, for those that do have it, I was wondering, can it be removed? I don't mind just leaving the hinges there. I just want the part that swings out gone. Also, after removing that, is all the hardware for putting the spare tire under the vehicle present on it so that I can use that to hold the spare?

Thanks

Can't answer your question directly but can tell you that I've seen the hardware for mounting to undercarriage on ebay. And I'm sure you could get rid of your tire mount on ebay and end up on the plus side. I would have loved to trade you when I had my 2nd gen. Im bout to drop a good bit on a bumper to carry the spare on the back of my first gen.

Never thought of that. I was resigned to the fact that if I bought it and took off the rear spare tire, I would just have to live with the notch on the back of the bumper. Maybe if I find the right one, I'll just remove it and see if anyone wants to trade.
