2nd thread of the night. Rust spots?

Ok, so I started another thread about my engine issues, but I dont want to mix up the two issues as the engine one is significantly more important, and the rust spots are a nuisance.

This is what Im dealing with

I bought some clay bar today, but I dont think thats going to be enough. Any idea how to go about fixing this without sanding down the entire hatch and repainting it?

Have you tried rubbing compound.
Whenever I've seen those like "dots" appear, i would just put a dab of wax on a cloth and rub like hell. Works all the time and I wax regularly. You gotta try and get them early.

Getting them early may be the problem. These have been around for a while.

can you post a zoomed in picture of one of the spots?
I wonder what caused them........ almost looks like the car was towed backwards behind a big truck LOL

Rubbing compound and or wax will remove the orange hue around the spot.
Then you can treat the spot.

I read when the 4runners are shipped by rail, they get little bits of iron from the tracks in the clearcoat.

Then years later, those little specks grows into this.

Could be wrong, but seems like I read that on this site.

I have a couple I ground out, then touched up on my white 04. But the biggest one was the size of a pea, maybe. I hit it with compound like hell before, of course.

Bringing this post back up .

I'm looking a 2000 that looks similar to this, not quite as many spots maybe 15 total and nothing larger than a 1/4". Is it something that can be "fixed" easily ( elbow grease ) or just going to keep coming back .... Everything else on the vehicle is fine, minimum rust underneath.
